gracefullypunk (272), Washington, USA Nov 5, 2009 Pours a honey orange with a thick cream head. Aromas of deeply roasted caramel, vanilla, and maple--almost like old fashioned Christmas candy. I love the creamy palate of the solstice beers. This one’s taste leans toward sweet, with a maple and vanilla edge much like its aroma. Some red fruits along with a very faint hop finish. ano1ridesthe19 (23), Chico, California, USA Nov 4, 2009 12 ounce bottle, pours a really nice dark brown. Tons of flavor up front. Maple, vanilla, heavy spices. This is a very interesting take on a winter beer. Finishes almost like a brown beer. The overall aftertaste is not that sweet though or sappy like most brown beers. I dont know why people rate beers so low just because they are a new breed or somthing their not used to. This beer kicks ass !!!!! robforbes (1083), Bremerton, Washington, USA Oct 25, 2009 pours a semi-hazy copper with a medium size light beige head, and good lacing.
smell is of caramel, malt, some spice, and roasted nuts.
taste is crisp, malt, a little spice, hops in back, pepper, and a touch of caramel, ends a little tangy. acblue (50), Seattle, Washington, USA Oct 18, 2009 Aroma of caramel, vanilla, maple. Deep amber pour with medium off-white head. Very malty with a light hop finish. bsjay (54), Oregon, USA Oct 15, 2009 Too low in ABV to be a good warmer. If you did a blind taste test with half the winter beers out there this wouldn’t taste any different. Some chocolate, fruit, bitterness, malt. Make it an imperial and I might go for it. Rynoplasty (500), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Oct 12, 2009 Pours amber brown with a decent sized tan head. Aroma is caramel malt and a little vanilla. Flavor is malty caramel with sweet vanilla notes as well as some dark fruit. Pretty good. neepsntatties (281), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 26, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Colour... ruddy amber with a thick head. Nose... funky! Some malt and spice, but generally it smells like my compost bin when it’s full in the summer! Palate... some sweet malt, but mostly tastes like what I imagine the drippings from compost bin would taste like! Something is very wrong here!! Is this a bad batch?! KyotoLefty (1371), Kyoto, Japan Sep 13, 2009 Bottle. Dark red-brown color, lots of bubbles, thin, oily head. Very appealing.
Head vanishes into a thin lace quickly.
Aroma of sweet fruits, probably cherry, and malt. Taste is malty, with fruit and spice. Lightly hopped. Not too sweet either, with a touch of sourness. Very well balanced. Medium-light body with highish carbonation, so it is light and refreshing feeling. I like it a lot. Cherry fruity without being overly sweet.
