Commercial Description:
Each year, when people are starting to unpack their winter clothes and replenish their firewood, our tiny brewery in the coastal redwoods of Northern California makes seasonal preparations of a different kind. As the cold arrives, we release a unique beverage created to add warmth to even the coldest and darkest of winter's days. Winter Solstice Seasonal Ale begins with a very high original gravity to create a hearty and spicy brew with a deep amber hue and a smooth finish. Anderson Valley Brewing Company wishes you the very best for the holiday season and the New Year.

Bottle popured a clear dark amber with a minimal lingering amber head. Aromas of carm el, brown sugar, spices and light fruitinerss. Palate was light to medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of carmel, spice, brown sugar and a hint of cocoa with a smooth lingering malty finish.

Dark amber with small head. Aroma is mild and a little bready. Flavor is malts with mysterious spices that I couldn’t pick out. Slightly creamy mouthfeel and a smooth finish. Nice. I’d have it again.

poured from a 12 oz bottle, I gratefully quaffed this drinkable spiced beer on blustery cold day though well before the Winter Solstice. An earlier review described this seasonal offering perfectly, it DOES look like iced tea but the sweet suggestions of fruit and proper additions of cinnamon, vanilla, and other harmonious flavors balance this quite nicely. As others have noted, the alcohol is well hidden in this dangerous brew. Enjoy.

Aroma: Malty, brown sugar aroma...very pleasant.
Appearance: Looks like iced tea with a slight head.
Flavor: Sweet and tasty, with malt, brown sugar and maple syrup overtones.
Palate: Well carbonated with a sweet finish. The alcohol is hidden well in this beer.
Overall: Great tasting sweet beer, that has just barely enough alcohol for a winter beer. I would have liked a little more hop presence, especially in the finish, so it would balance out the sweetness. I did like this beer and would purchase it again.

2007 vintage. Clear, dark copper-brown with ruby highlights. Small but lasting, creamy cap leaves nice lacing. Subtle spicy-sweet aroma. Flavor is spicy (in the vein of clove-nutmeg-mace) fruit, toasted-nut, raisin, cedar and oak, maybe a dash of cocoa, and an herby-peppery finish. Palate is medium-bodied and smooth, but has a lot of prickly spice tongue-tingle. Spices are used nicely to complement what seems like British-style malt, yeast and hops.

Sweet caramel malt aromas, hints of pears and apple skins, fruity malts. Pours amber with a thin white head. Very different flavor. Smooth vanilla and caramel malts, with hints of chai, allspice, cinnamon hidden in there, with enough hops to balance it out and make sure its not too sweet. I’m not sure what its spiced with but there’s just enough to leave you wondering whats in it, and not overpowering! Great beer!

Pours a reddish amber color with a small white head. Aroma of caramel, spices, perm solution, and bananas. Malty, not overly sweet, nice vanilla-creaminess, some cinnamon spices. A staple winter brew.

Draught. poured off amber with thin white head. Citrusy and spicy aroma. Mucl lacing. Flavours of vanilla, cherry and malt. Lasting vanilla flavour, much like very good vanilla ice cream. Some chocolate in the mouth.
