Mar 5, 2007 Pours a deep amber. Smells of bread, spices, mainly vanilla. I was worried about this because I don’t really like super sweet beers. It wasn’t as bad as others like this but I still couldn’t quite stomach it. The flavor starts out with vanilla and finishes with a slight warming sensation.

Mar 1, 2007 A very true winter brew. Beer is very malty with some hoppy accents. Aroma is strong and lasting. Appearance is dark brown with a thick lacey head. Mouthfeel is very crisp and lasting.

Feb 24, 2007 came highly recommended from the guy at international beverage. completely changed my opinion of what a winter brew should taste like.

Feb 13, 2007 Reddish copper color. Smell of hops, malt, spice, caramel, bread and vanilia. Taste of hops, malt, ginger, cinamon, fruit, zest, clove, pine and caramel. A little bit of alchol at the end with a great dry bitterness makes this a great beer!

Jan 28, 2007 2006 bottle... Anderson Valley Winter Solstice pours a hazy golden chesnut color with a thin, frothy beige head. The aroma is quite sweet with citrus (orange), toffee, spice (coriander, clove, ?), vanilla, and some alcohol. A complex combination of fruit (weak citrus?), toffee and toasted malt, and spice (more coriander and others?) create a wonderful flavor. This is one of the few spiced beers that are well constructed such that the spice complements the overall flavor rather than dominating it. It is also pretty sweet, but there is just enough spice and bitterness in the finish to balance it out. The alcohol is truly warming which is quite welcomed on this super cold day! This beer has a medium body, mild carbonation, and is creamy and smooth on the palate. Overall, this is a pretty complex (notice all of the question marks in my description) brew and is definitely one of the better Winter/Christmas beers that I’ve had. This beer is another reason why Anderson Valley is toward the top of my favorite microbreweries...

Jan 27, 2007 12 oz bottle. Dark copper with a frothy/creamy off white head. Aroma of chocolate and toffee (Heath Bars?), dark roasted malts and some barky spices. Malty flavor of dark brown sugar butter cookies infused with vanilla. Some maple and spice notes as well. Sweet, but just the right amount of sweetness, not cloying. Creamy mouthfeel--- almost nitro-like though it’s from a bottle. Like a Christmas cookie in the form of a beer. Some might complain of the vanilla emphasis, but I prefer the vanilla angle over the ginger/clove infusions of some other winter seasonals.
