Commercial Description:
Each year, when people are starting to unpack their winter clothes and replenish their firewood, our tiny brewery in the coastal redwoods of Northern California makes seasonal preparations of a different kind. As the cold arrives, we release a unique beverage created to add warmth to even the coldest and darkest of winter's days. Winter Solstice Seasonal Ale begins with a very high original gravity to create a hearty and spicy brew with a deep amber hue and a smooth finish. Anderson Valley Brewing Company wishes you the very best for the holiday season and the New Year.

A nice "something different" beer. Reddish brown in color with a delicious tan head. There is more going on in this beer than a TV Drama. Hints of cherry, vanilla and carmel in the beginning with a slightly spicy finish. Interesting, but like an average movie..once was enough.

Brown amber, aroma is almost port-ish. Pretty strong sweet vanilla, a little malt, "winter-ish" spices that I can’t get a handle on. Pretty odd beer, not exactly your classic comforting Christmas brew but I’ll be getting it again.

Pours a fairly dark amber color with a thin off-white head. Interesting aroma has notes of cinnamon and a touch of vanilla. Dark fruit notes along with more vanilla and a dusting of allspice. This is about as good as these spiced winter beers get. I could easily enjoy 3-4 of these in a social setting.

bottle. Brown in color with a small off white head. Caramel, grains, and vanilla in the aroma, with about the same in the taste, lightly nutty. Didn’t get much in the way of spices.

Ok, so my note-taking on flavor, color, etc suffered the night I tried this. I did numerically score as I went, but scoring 20 beer samples in a night clouds the old flavor memory! This finished a bit below average among the Winter beers that night. As someone in the group said - "It’s Cream Soda!" (It’s that vanilla taste that others mentioned here)

From bottle, 2006 brew, very vanilla/syruppy/raisinny. Didn’t love this beer but I don’t generally love veggie beers.

Amber brown body with small off-white head. Texture is nice and creamy, but aroma and flavor are quite mild. Smells and tastes like vanillas and bubble gum... mainly just sweet and not very complex. Pretty average.

Bottle: poured an amber brown with an average head. Aroma is of cloves and a vanilla like sweetness. Taste is a blend of spices, mostly clove and ginger, with hints of vanilla and some light malt. Not overpowering in flavor, but tasty and smooth.
