Commercial Description:
Each year, when people are starting to unpack their winter clothes and replenish their firewood, our tiny brewery in the coastal redwoods of Northern California makes seasonal preparations of a different kind. As the cold arrives, we release a unique beverage created to add warmth to even the coldest and darkest of winter's days. Winter Solstice Seasonal Ale begins with a very high original gravity to create a hearty and spicy brew with a deep amber hue and a smooth finish. Anderson Valley Brewing Company wishes you the very best for the holiday season and the New Year.

Pours dark amber w/ a full semi creamy froth reducing to fine blanket. Aroma is sweet w/ berries and red licorice. Medium nectar w/ mellow residuals. Flavors are fruity w/ fresh berries spice and a nice grahm cracker appeal w/ vanilla bean. Finish is bittered nicely. Reminds me of rootbeer.

2006 Vintage at 6.9% ABV. 12 oz bottle into a Lager glass. Pours an amber copperish see through color with a foamed and slightly tanned white head. The aroma brings a malted nutmeggy vanilla essence to the nose. Hints of Earth are present as well. The flavor starts off with a hazlenutty malt taste, which moves swiftly into a very vannila, cinnamon, and spice flavor. This one definitely ends on the spice note with nutmeg and cinnamon. Very creamy and smooth on the palate. A tiny bit of alcohol is present on the roof of the mouth after a sip. A well done winter brew!!

2006 bottle; spicy, clovey, caramelly nose similiar to a lot of belgians; cherry-copper color with a small beige head; sweet caramel and vanilla malty flavor in a medium body, with a spicy finish mixed with a tiny bit of alcohol burn.

2006 bottle - Pours a beautiful clear deep red color with a nice off white head. Light lacing. Has a spicey caramel malt aroma and flavor. Very nice. Medium body. Has a slight berry after taste. Good beer.

Poured a dark copper color with a small quickly disappearing head. The color is beautiful and would get highest rating but the head was too lackluster. Malty, dark fruit and candy aroma. A very smooth beer with that touch of candy, dark fruit and a very slight hint of alcohol when you breathe after swallowing. Initial taste is almost non-existent and a majority of the flavor is the lingering flavors. I really like this but will be a seldom purchase at almost $13 a 6-pack.

12 oz bottle. I really dug on this beer. Pours a burnt orange color......nose of caramel malts, and some dark fruits. A very smooth finish. An all around great winter brew!!

2004 vintage consumed in the middle of summer.. Pours copper with little offwhite head. Aromas of caramel, vanilla, and nutmeg. Flavor is caramel, a touch of toffee, nutmeg, and vanilla and maybe a little cinnamon. Smooth almost buttery palate. Medium body. Good drinkable brew even 2 years old..
