Commercial Description:
Each year, when people are starting to unpack their winter clothes and replenish their firewood, our tiny brewery in the coastal redwoods of Northern California makes seasonal preparations of a different kind. As the cold arrives, we release a unique beverage created to add warmth to even the coldest and darkest of winter's days. Winter Solstice Seasonal Ale begins with a very high original gravity to create a hearty and spicy brew with a deep amber hue and a smooth finish. Anderson Valley Brewing Company wishes you the very best for the holiday season and the New Year.

2002 Vintage: Very muddy looking with a thin head. Aroma of honey and clover. Heavy corriander taste with cloves and malt. Interesting to say the least.

Draft at San Diego Brewing Co. Nice brown color with a hint of vanilla in the aroma that comes out more definite in the flavor. Great finish.

On tap. Nice looking deep brown with minimal head. Aroma is like a malty barley wine with vanilla. Taste is all over the place. It starts sticky malty vanilly, and ends sour fruit with some bitter hops. Crazy stuff, and not bad.

Way to much vanilla for me, it dominates this ber. Some clotted cream and caramel notes with a bit of grassy hay.Thin uncomplex beer little depth.

This is a really good. Nice aroma, reminescent of cream soda, but beer. Beautiful honey red/brown color; modest head. The flavor is great... tastes of honey and vanilla, and I there must be something in the Anderson Valley water or air that gives it a a hint of the forests. Beautifully smooth and balanced. It occupies the same space as a medium sherry. Supple mouth feel with lingering flavor that lasts pleasantly on the tongue. It does lend itself to the the idea of the holidays and the type of meals one serves - Great with a honey glazed ham or roasted turkey, plum pudding - or just after dinner. I don’t want to overhype this one but this is a good one.

On tap. Clear, reddish color with a medium beige head. Good roasted cherry, malty aroma with some slight spicy scents. Fruity, smooth, caramel flavor. Med/thin mouthfeel. Really tasty palate. Nice malty finish. Very good winter beer.

I have been pretty pleased with what I have had from this brewer so far so I jumped at the chance to try this one. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this brew pours a chestnut color with a small tan head. The aroma is faint but sweet and malty. The flavor is a complex mix of caramel, nut, burnt sugar and toasted malt. There is a undertone here reminiscent of toasted marshmallow. The finish is rich roasted malt. A lovely beer overall and one I will be keeping an eye out for in the future.
