Commercial Description:
Each year, when people are starting to unpack their winter clothes and replenish their firewood, our tiny brewery in the coastal redwoods of Northern California makes seasonal preparations of a different kind. As the cold arrives, we release a unique beverage created to add warmth to even the coldest and darkest of winter's days. Winter Solstice Seasonal Ale begins with a very high original gravity to create a hearty and spicy brew with a deep amber hue and a smooth finish. Anderson Valley Brewing Company wishes you the very best for the holiday season and the New Year.

From a bottle: pours a clear copper with reddish tinting ’round the edge. Initially small creamy head. Hint of vanilla in the aroma. Mouthfeel is on the light side with moderate carbonation. Taste is predominately nutty vanilla. Maybe my taste buds are shot because I couldn’t detect much "spice" in this brew. Decenly drinkable..

Golden orange, just like an english ale, but with an off-white, diminishing head. Aromas are orange, nuts, and cider. Smooth and full, quaffable, and tasty, yet substantial with its alcohol, hop, and spice flavors. Not an especially balanced winter warmer. Fresh and intriguing, however.

2004 bottle: Burnt orange hue with tiny amount of red tint. A decent sized head at first, but automatically breaks up to nothing. Some lacing occurs on the glass cup. Nose is slightly spiced and of malt. I was expecting a damn good winter beer since it was from Anderson Valley, but It was pretty ordinary of a standard for the style. Has a small personality of gnger, clove and vanilla that reminded me of club soda. I was looking for this beer for over a month and finally found a place that had there last 6 pack left.

Medium amber color with thin head. Many spices here, cloves, orange, and others. Doesn’t seem to blend all that well to me. Finish is dry and kind of sharp.

Nutmeg, clove, orange, toffee. Caramel flavor. Spices keep it somewhat dry. Some citrus, nutty finish.

Bottleed Pours clear off amber color. Soy sauce and spice aromas. LOts of vanilla notes and very malty. Heavy mouthfeel with lower carbonation. Very faint hoppy finish with more of the spice showing up again as well.

Dark ambers and browns, creamy off white head. Rich aromas of vanilla custard, rum, spiced fruitcake, fresh dough, with a hint of chocolate. The vanilla and spice frontrunner gets a dose of soft hops to balance and round this out nicely. Medium bodied, prickly carbonation, smooth drying spicy finish. Quite tasty and a nice change of pace from hopmania.....

Pours a slightly murky copper body, with a thin lacing head. Aroma is sweet and malty, a bit fruity and hints of spices. Flavor is well rounded; mild malt, vanilla flavors, and a hint of hops in the end. Medium bodied, light on carbonation.
