Commercial Description:
Each year, when people are starting to unpack their winter clothes and replenish their firewood, our tiny brewery in the coastal redwoods of Northern California makes seasonal preparations of a different kind. As the cold arrives, we release a unique beverage created to add warmth to even the coldest and darkest of winter's days. Winter Solstice Seasonal Ale begins with a very high original gravity to create a hearty and spicy brew with a deep amber hue and a smooth finish. Anderson Valley Brewing Company wishes you the very best for the holiday season and the New Year.

Rich crimson/amber pour under a whispy off-white head. Spicy, mildly hoppy and fruity aroma whith a strong nutmeg and cinnamon componant. Flavor consistent with the spiced aroma with a nice balance of hops, crisp fruit and spice. Overall a solid traditional holiday/winter beer which compares well with SN Celebration Ale (though not as an IPA).

Had this on tap. Not much of an aroma, and poured an amberish color with a small white head. Flavor was interesting, had a spicy, malty flavor, pretty heavy, but had a smooth finish, pretty nice beer overall.

Dark amber, creamy head. Mild wheat-beer nose with a bit of fruit and spice. Flavor is just loaded with vanilla--very nice and unique to boot. Creamy body and a quick finish.

Pours a deep reddish-amber color with a short-lived fizzy white head, maybe one finger. The aroma is sweet, fruity, and spicy. Nice caramel malts with an allspice flavoring, candied fruits, and some vanilla. Medium-bodied, it’s got a snappy, spicy finish.

Bottled. (2004) Pours a reddish/golden, with a large puffy snow-white head. Aroma is not very clean, fruity alcohol initially, with vanilla and spiced cherries showing through. Flavor is a little sour, chocolate cover cherries, more vanilla, spiced fruit cake, alcohol, and finishes with a tangy bight. Smooth and medium bodied, very festive and enjoyable.

Bottle: Amber color with a small white head that diminishes to a tiny ring around the outside of the glass. Aroma has hops, nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper, ginger, hops, and a bit of malt. Taste has caramel, tea, nutmeg, ginger, bread, grains. Finishes with a small alcohol kick and bitter spices. Light to medium body, just a bit thin. Pretty nice.

Wow, this one was a real treat. The first sip was warm, I should have refigerated it a little longer. Nonetheless this sip was smooth and delicate. As I continued, I experienced excellent lacing with rich flavoring. The transition makes the beer. One of the best after-tastes I have ever had. It goes down smooth, and the reminants on the palate are even smoother, leaving significant sugary flavors behind like vanilla and gingerbread. Superb complexity, incredible dynamics, each sip surpasses the last. Needless to say, an excellent beer, I was incredibly pleased.
