Commercial Description:
Each year, when people are starting to unpack their winter clothes and replenish their firewood, our tiny brewery in the coastal redwoods of Northern California makes seasonal preparations of a different kind. As the cold arrives, we release a unique beverage created to add warmth to even the coldest and darkest of winter's days. Winter Solstice Seasonal Ale begins with a very high original gravity to create a hearty and spicy brew with a deep amber hue and a smooth finish. Anderson Valley Brewing Company wishes you the very best for the holiday season and the New Year.

(Bottle) Pours a dark brown body with mahogany highlights and an average-sized off-white head. Aroma of fruit cake and winter spices. Flavor of sweet malt, nutmeg, raisins, maple syrup, and a hint of cinnamon and other spices. Moderately sticky mouthfeel.

2002 Version. Aroma: Candy-sweet malt with some spices in the nose. No hop. Bready, cinnmanony, and estery. Appearance: Very cloudy, murky brownish tea-color. Short lived head. Flavor: Sherryish oxidative and malt notes, no hop. Decent complexity. Mouthfeel: Unpleasant astringency in the mouth and back of throat. Carbonation is too low, a little more would enhance the flavor. Overall: OK Winter Ale.

Deep amber, beige head. Vanilla aroma with some nutmeg and fruit. Starts out fruity, followed by some dryness from hops. Medium bodied, no sign of the alcohol. Pretty nice. A bit more body, a little less hop prescence in the flavor(and the dryness) and this could be something top notch.

12 oz. brown, longneck bottle. No freshness date seen anywhere. Poured out a deep amber color, with a decent tan colored head. Aromas are of fresh malts, spices, and fruits. Tastes are of too much cinnamon for my liking, too much nutmeg also. Tastes more like a pumpkin pie than anything else. Thin mouthfeel, and body. Nothing to write home about, IMHO.

Pours a dark reddish brown with a thin tan head. Apples, spice, and caramel on the nose. It smelled like Christmas. Medium bodied mouthfeel. Apples, brown sugar, nutmeg, and cinnamon on the tongue. A great beer for guests for the holidays. I think the average beer drinker would enjoy this one. These seasonal beers are making me wish it was closer to Christmas.

2004- Aroma is caramel, nutmeg, cookie dough. Ruby body, with light tan head. PERFECT mouthfeel, thick, full, chewy. Taste is gingerbread, caramel, oak. Very nice brew and something I will have to get more of.

Bottle. Ruby-Mahogony colored beer with a good creamy off-white head. Aroma of fruit - citrus, plum, cherries - sweet malt and spice. Flavor is spicey fruitiness - caramel, brown sugar, plum, raisin, nutmeg, and more and more vanilla as it warms. Good smooth and clean beer.

Great looking beer, dark red, thin creamy head, awesome sweet malty aroma, kinda fruity, very rich and full bodied taste, hints of molasses, cream, and brown sugar, also a nice hop presence.
