Commercial Description:
Each year, when people are starting to unpack their winter clothes and replenish their firewood, our tiny brewery in the coastal redwoods of Northern California makes seasonal preparations of a different kind. As the cold arrives, we release a unique beverage created to add warmth to even the coldest and darkest of winter's days. Winter Solstice Seasonal Ale begins with a very high original gravity to create a hearty and spicy brew with a deep amber hue and a smooth finish. Anderson Valley Brewing Company wishes you the very best for the holiday season and the New Year.

Pours a brownish coppery color. Aroma is malty, lemony, with some spices. Flavor is sweet, malty, with vanilla, caramel, and a little brown sugar.

Bottle (many) Pours a nice amber, moderate head. Aroma is complex, sweet, spicy. Flavor is also complex, and very good - malt sweetness and spices in balance. Caramel, cinnamon and especially vanilla dominate. Tastes like it was aged in bourbon casks. Incredibly smooth. One of my favorites.

Pours amber with minimal off-white head. Malty and heavy on the dark fruits, currants, dried cherries, raisin, caramel and vanilla bean. Light-moderate hops to balance it out.

Sampled on tap at The Galway Tribes (Frankfort, IL). Pours a deep dark brownish copper with tannish moderate head. Aromas are carmel and vanilla mixed with subtle nutmeg spiciness and other spices. Taste is similar, creamy carmel and vanilla noted brew, light on hoppiness, mixed with some subtle spice (nutmeg, cinnamon, etc.). A bit too sweet for my palate and lacking a lot of complexity with hops. Interesting, but not a favorite.

Served on draft at Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a hazy copper color with a medium head. Average head retention and excellent lacing. Aroma is caramel malts and spices, primarily nutmeg. Taste is toasted malts, caramel, spice and leafy hops. Well balanced and full bodied. Quite nice.

Copper amber color with deep tan head. Sweet malty aroma mostly caramel. Flavor is not far from a vanilla cream ale which becomes a bit much by the end of the glass. Creamy on the palate. Interesting use of spicing

Clear honey colored with 2cm of beige head. Aroma is sweet with worty caramel notes. Taste carries these elements along with a spiced grape soda aspect that I find interesting. Biscuity finish. $2/12oz

Cloudy red-brown with a thick light tan head. Smell is sweet and herbal. Like honey and parsley. Flavor is just weird, sweet and herbal. Strong parsley aftertaste. I don,t think I can finish this.
