Commercial Description:
Each year, when people are starting to unpack their winter clothes and replenish their firewood, our tiny brewery in the coastal redwoods of Northern California makes seasonal preparations of a different kind. As the cold arrives, we release a unique beverage created to add warmth to even the coldest and darkest of winter's days. Winter Solstice Seasonal Ale begins with a very high original gravity to create a hearty and spicy brew with a deep amber hue and a smooth finish. Anderson Valley Brewing Company wishes you the very best for the holiday season and the New Year.

Rosy red and flat. Vaguely chocolate-strawberry flavored. Mellow. I'd call it "so-so."

Dark brown and red with a generous head. Musty aroma of hops, wheat, and wood. Sweet cherry syrup and wood flavor. A dry, hoppy finish under a very sweet cherry and pine flavor. Pretty good.

2003 Clear amber with a lasting off white head and a fruity nose. Tastes almost like there is raspberry syrup in it. Some spice and hop flavors, but I get too much medicinal fruit and artificial vanilla. NOt bad but I remember liking other years better.

2003 bottle. An appealing reddish-brown color with a fair amount of head and lacing. Malty aroma with a hint of spices. The initial taste is sweet, a little cherry nut flavor. As the beer warms up the fruity, malty character comes through. All leads to a bit dry finish. A nice seasonal in which I will look forward to having again.

re-rate 11/26/2004: on draft Hollingshead, Orange CA. didn’t have the flat finish that I noted before. Tasty. --- previous rating This pours a crystal clear mahogany color with a quickly disappearing faded yellow head. The color of the beer is very nice. The flavor of the beer is malty but finishes fairly flat. The aroma is a bit fruity, but I noted some spices too.

Unlike my buddy urbnhautebourg i happened to have enjoyed this brew, granted it was middle of the road flavor but it was fairly decent IMO.Nice amber color, small head that faded quickly. The aroma was malty and spicy with hints of what almost smells like my Spruce beer but in a much fainter appearance. So i guess you'd have to call it piney i guess with a mild hop presence. The flavor was malty and caramle with a very mild fruit presence and just a faint hint of the pine coming through. The finish was a bit dry and hoppy. Not a bad brew fairly decent and fairly well done IMO.Well worth trying again if you ask me.

Yummy aroma. Very spicy, floral with notes of spruce. Appearance is nice light amber with big fluffy off white head that is fully retained. Flavor is tasty. Very spicy, I think you can taste the spruce. Overall very good.
