Commercial Description:
Each year, when people are starting to unpack their winter clothes and replenish their firewood, our tiny brewery in the coastal redwoods of Northern California makes seasonal preparations of a different kind. As the cold arrives, we release a unique beverage created to add warmth to even the coldest and darkest of winter's days. Winter Solstice Seasonal Ale begins with a very high original gravity to create a hearty and spicy brew with a deep amber hue and a smooth finish. Anderson Valley Brewing Company wishes you the very best for the holiday season and the New Year.

Bottle. I really enjoyed this beer. It poured a deep golden brown with with a ruby hue, very little head. The aroma is mildly spicy, there is a little bit of a dried fruit note, and some pine. The flavor is nutty, some spice, very malty. The body is full but not heavy. The finish is warm and satisfying.

Draft at redlight redlight. Pours a typical amber color. The nose is pretty funky, definitely some foot in there. Also some bark and hints of beef stew. Behind it some orange peel and whatever spices are in Capt. Morgan, you might find those spices in the aroma. The funkiness mellows in the flavor but still present. A lot of flavors similar to wassle come forward. I don’t know what’s in wassle but here it is. A little thin but not bad.

Reddish brown pour. Off white head. I get a lot of fruit and caramel but no real spice. Flavor tastes like tart apples, caramel and a little yeast.

On tap in a pint glass. A faint aroma of malt and a big fresh grain taste that really reminds me of Leinie’s Fireside Nut Brown. Some spice comes and goes.

The aroma has caramel, cereal, nuts, spice, dust, paper, and grass. The appearance is amber with a large foamy head. The flavor is like the aroma with sweetness upfront and bitterness and bread in the finish. The palate is OK. Overall this is a pretty easy drinking beer but it’s slightly off.

Tallahassee, Fl. - Market Square Liquors, 12 oz bottle. Medium copper colored pour, decently thick off-white head. Hint of spice in the aroma with some nuttiness. Flavor is on the sweet side with some caramel, Christmas spices, sweet toffee, hint of citrus and a nice underlying nuttiness. Medium thick mouthfeel. Very decent.

From Gilly’s Beer & Wine: Light aroma. Decent flavor, not the best winter beer.
