Nose of pine nuts, sweet fig and caramelized rye bread, light carbonation for an abbey ale. The flavor is very caramelly and sweet with a light hop and alcohol trying in vain to was it away. Comes across young and brash due to low aging or low carbonation. Tasty, but too sweet. Looks like this one sucks in the bottle, bottle sanitation issues? pivo (2535), Germany

Big yeasty taste with hints of green apples. Caramelly, thick body. OK, but not thrilling. YogiBeera (2437), Hamburg, Germany

| 1.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 1/10 | 3/5 | 1/20 | Feb 2, 2007 From a 22 oz. bomber bottle, no bottling/freshness date, sampled at a cool cellar temperature in a tulip glass.
Poured your usual amber dubbel with a small foamy head, minimal amount of sticking.
Aromas of sugar and apple cider vinegar, not that appealing.
For a dubbel, moderate carbonation and a sour, tart, but not crisp, medium-light bodied mouthfeel, not what you want from a dubbel.
Pretty crappy tasting, apple cider sour vinegar with candied sugar, not a good mix, pretty awful and I don’t want to waste any more of time on this.
It’s been awhile since I had one glass, then poured rest of the bottle down the drain, but this earned it.

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 23, 2006 Bottle from BevMo. Very dark brownish/amber color on the pour. Very little carbonation. Aroma is of dark fruit and yeastiness. Fairly sour with some slightly sweet dark fruit and some bitter yeasty qualities. The brew I’ve had from this brewery all seem to be sour. Drinkable, but nothing special. Pailhead (2594), Allen Park, Michigan, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Nov 15, 2006 Bottle: Courtesy of Styles. Aroma is very fruity with grape and a hint of tart cherry, lots of yeastiness, and some alcohol. Pours a dark, mostly transparent orange with a touch of haze and a minimal off-white head. Flavor starts with some light grape flavors and other fruits. Yeastiness starts light but really builds into the finish. Finish has a light tart cherry flavor that almost comes across like a watered down Flemish Sour. riversideAK (2733), Shoreline, Washington, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Oct 20, 2006 This is the best bottled Angel CIty beer that I have had. Everything else has been infected. This definitley tastes better on draft, but is my favorite Angel City Ale. There is a sour taste, some brown sugar flavor, a a fruity flavor that I cannot place my finger on. Perhaps green apple. It is not bad, but not good, but as they say, "All beers are good, some beers are better." Headbanger (1589), Aurora, Illinois, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Sep 4, 2006 22oz bomber-A cloudy amber with a nice off white head. Aroma of sour, apple, caramel, and malts. Taste of malt mixed with a candy apple and finishes sour. Agree w/previous rater that they have a bad bottling line or the stuff in Illinois is just bad.
