Strong smoky rich flavor - burnt toast and faint alcohol notes. Coats the inside of your mouth, coffee and chocolate tones. Incredibly chewy and complex. Bravo AC. Purchased for me by a friend as we drank until it started to rain. Pours black with a tan head. Sweet light and malty nose with a slight coffee and chocolate edge. Taste is choclately and bitter with some coffee. hopscotch (5532), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 30, 2008 Draft... RBSG ‘08... Pours a dark, burnt orange, but sits pitch black in the glass with a small, wispy, khaki head. Notes of coffee and dark chocolate rule the aroma... also a good bit of soy sauce and acetaldehyde. Full-bodied and oily with restrained carbonation. Deeply roasted, with good bitterness from the alcohol and hops, but overall, the flavor tilts toward the sweet side of balance. Acrid finish. | 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 17, 2008 I had this on tap at Spring Street Smokehouse. It tastes like a thick version of their tasty Dunkel. I would bet the farm it isn’t 10.2%. Didn’t have flavor qualities that come with that abv, and didn’t pack a 10.2% punch. beerinmarch (2829), Washington, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 16, 2008 On tap at Port Brewing in Carlsbad. Dark brown, almost black, with just a small ring of tan head around the edge of the glass. Fairly watery as an imperial stout goes, lack of body and boozy. Chocolate and soft brandy up front. Overall just didn’t seem to come together very well. yespr (12407), Copenhagen O, Denmark
