Commercial Description:
An authentic German styled unfiltered wheat beer. Vitzen is the phonetic spelling for the German "Weizen", which means wheat beer. "Hefe", pronounced Hay fa, means with yeast and refers to the cloudy appearance of the unfiltered beer. Angel City Vitzen uses the Weinstephan wheat beer yeast which gives the beer it’s spicy flavor. Michael points out that this beer illustrates how much yeast can influence the flavor and aroma of beer and anyone who has been to Germany can attest to it’s authenticity.

22oz bottle. Poured a medium and cloudy yellowish-gloden color with an averaged sized white head. Aromas of cloves, bananas, lighter wheat, and lighter yeastiness. Not a bad smelling hefe. Tastes of wheat, cloves, bananas, and some citrus. The tastes were a little bit of a let down vs the aromas - they just did not seem to work well together.

Pours hazy pale gold with no head. The nose is decent with malt and bready biscuit. Similar flavor, but not as smooth and a soapy finish.

Bottle. Amber beer with a whitish head. Spice and wheat aroma. Sweet malt flavor with wheat, spice, light citrus, and light bubblegum. Medium body. Banana, spice, bubblegum, and sweet malt linger.

22 oz bomber. Pours to a hazy, deep golden color, with a thick, tall, white head, and a vibrant carbonation. The nose on this beer is inviting, with light aromas of clove, estery fruit and banana. The palate is firm, with good, tart wheat malt flavors, paired with some estery fruity flavor of pear, and some banana flavor. This beer finishes with more good tart wheat malt up front, then ends with some clove spicy flavors that linger. I would have enjoyed a touch more yeasty, estery aromas and flavors, but really enjoyed this one. A good domestic example of hefeweizen. A nice summer refresher, and a good beer to match with weisswurst, or any other German fare.

Bomber. Hazy amber in color upon pouring. Yeasty dry clove aroma. Somewhat grainy with a little spice. Not as sweet as I would like. But at least it’s not sour like most of their beers.

On draft at Alpine Village. Poured with a cloudy orange hue. Nose of Clove and Banana with rich spices. Good carbonation with beautiful accents of ripe banana and spicy clove. This was a pleasure to drink.

Bomber at wine frig temperature. Aromas of wheat, clove and banana. Hazy orange gold color and a white head that flattened rapidly. Medium body with mild, creamy carbonation. Flavors of banana, wheat and clove. Enough spice to tingle. It is one of the better, closer to the style, hefes that I can recall. The finish has all the flavors plus a touch of orange/lemon citrus. I’d suggest this not be served overly cold.
