JohnnyOS (610), Golden, Wisconsin, USA Feb 25, 2008 Pours light copper with off-white head. Aroma of caramel malt and floral hops. Little carbonation with a bit of yeast and caramel malt with a bit o’ nanners. Skyview (2850), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Feb 24, 2008 On draught at the brewery/brewpub in Hayward, Wisconsin. I visited the northwoods brewpub during the annual American Birkebeiner cross-country ski race from Cable to Hayward. Man, was it crazy with so many people. This Belgian ale pours a clear copper amber brew with a fast dissolving off-white head that quickly dissipates to a film thin creamy off-white head with no lacing. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, candi sugar, flowery hops and a touch of banana esters. Taste is light to medium bodied, very little carbonation with flavors of light banana esters, a touch of yeast, caramel malt, some hint of candi sugar and bubble gum. Finish is very light and a bit on the watery side, with sweet light banana and candi sugar aftertaste. Though most Belgian Ales have a thicker and more distinct sweet flavor, after cross-country skiing for 32.5 miles I would prefer a lighter Belgian ale than the full-strength style.
