| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jan 14, 2008 Appearance: Pours a lightly hazy, orangeish-hued body with a small, white head.
Smell: Middling caramel malt aroma with notes of soil, chicken broth, and orange essence.
Taste: Caramel malts with some sugary sweetness. Dash of curaçao. Earthy chicken broth. Alcoholic, antiseptic finish. Hmm.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied (at best). Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: Lacks the depth and complexity (among other things) one looks for in a barleywine. More barelywine than barleywine. mabel (2612), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Smells like hoppy wheatgrass peed on by cats. Clear, orange brown body with quick off-white bubbles. More evergreen pine piss in the flavour. Medium body. Cannot get past that cat pee... [1330B-20080508] 330mL bottle. Smoky dry wood roasted malt aroma. Lightly hazy, brown orange body with a medium-lasting creamy white head. Corn syrup dry roast booze flavour. Medium body. Interesting! Nice sweet background -- yay not disgusting cat pee this time! (6/3/6/3/13) 3.1

Sarcasm aside.....An amber apperance with a little head. The aroma is citrus, hay, and corn. The flavor is a bit sweet with some caramel and grassy notes. The citrus is showing through again. I’m not sure what the goal of this beer was but it is hands down the worst barleywine I’ve had. Miver (568), WillowStreet, Pennsylvania, USA

Taste is of vanilla and a harsh alcohol taste with a nutty weird finish and more burn. blankboy (3213), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Pours a slightly hazy orange with a spare diminishing white head. Aroma’s quite sweet with malt, alcohol, butterscotch and lightly burnt caramel -- maybe some diacytil. Flavour’s similar, also watery and mild with a slightly alcoholic bitter finish. Average bodied. Decent at best and a failure as a Barley Wine. aracauna (2391), Georgia, USA
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 2/10 | 3/5 | 5/20 | Jan 1, 2008 I was warned that this was diesel fuel in a bottle instead of a barleywine, but I’m going to attempt this with an open mind. Pours a mostly clear amber with perhaps a slight chill haze. The head is large, white and fairly long-lasting. Deserves good points on the appearance. Moving on to the aroma. A little green apple and grass in the aroma, a little bruised apple in there as well. It tastes a bit like rubbing alcohol, though. I’m assuming these are fusels, but they’re off the charts here. This is like a bad malt liquor.
