Commercial Description:
The romantic term "barley wine" is used for the beers with an alcoholic content similar to the one of the wine. Of color bronze, the Antares Barley Wine is a hard licorosa beer and maltose, with an intense frutado accent, that remembers white grapes to us, originating of leavenings.

Poured a clear golden color with light bubbles around the top. Aroma of vanilla, alcohol, and caramel. Taste was bitter, strong, sticky honey, and more vanilla.

Pours a light copper bronze color with a well-lacing spotty, wispy white head. Aroma of lightly grainy pale malts and some lager yeast character reminds me of European strong lagers. Body starts with some grainy maize and earthy bittering hops with a hint of oxidation toward a bittersweet, thinner and warming finish. This is hardly a barleywine and not all that tasty either.

Bottle from the Michael Jackson Rare Beer Club. 750mL with a crown. Pours a cloudy amber. Sticky manilla colored head. Lots of spotty lacing on the glass. Nose is sweet and sugary. Some over-ripened fruits, spices, light grains and caramel. Taste is also very sweet but has an odd herbal bitterness to it. Some spicy hops, light floral notes, caramel and fruit as well. Body is medium with a dense but full carbonation. Light alcohol warmth. Ends with more of the herbal bitterness. It gets to be a bit chalky, like bad aspirin, in spots. Some lighter hops, spices and fruit notes. This was different. Maybe it needs some age on it?

Gold without any head. Aroma is medicinal vanilla as is the flavor along with some nasty phenols and a funky nutty taste.

Pours amber/gold, with a white head. Aroma is spices and grain. Flavor is spices, with some hops and malt. Kind of an odd beer.

750 ml bottle poured a lightly hazy amber with a small lingering ring like ivory head. Aromas of plastic, banana, light vanilla and a hint of spice. The aroma was interesting and hard to describe, this is as close as I could come. Likewise on the flavor. Palate was light bodied crisp and dry. Flavors of fruitiness, straw, honey, flowers, wood and a hint of spice with a smooth dry lingering bittersweet finish. Hides it’s alcohol nicely. This beer has a lot goin’ on!

Sweet malty aroma, with a slight cattiness. Pours pale amber. Strong urine flavors, very catty, some sweet maltiness with hints of caramel, but very catty. Not sure what i think about this one, might need to go back a rerate.
