Commercial Description:
The romantic term "barley wine" is used for the beers with an alcoholic content similar to the one of the wine. Of color bronze, the Antares Barley Wine is a hard licorosa beer and maltose, with an intense frutado accent, that remembers white grapes to us, originating of leavenings.

RBESG08 grand tasting
So I DID have it. Funny enough, I didn’t remember having it after I’ve seen the empty bottle near the end of the tasting. Definitely not a thing to brag about. Murky orange colour. Malt, some soy sauce and alcohol in the nose. Sweet malty taste, with some eggs, bad graininess and alcohol. I really didn’t like it all that much it seems, which would explain why I chose to forget about it.

Sampled at the RBESG08 grand tasting. Cloudy orange with medium white head. Fruity and nutty with some herbal hops. Medium bodied and smooth. Nicely balanced. Perhaps not the most complex BW out there, but strangely underrated.

RBESG2008: 33 cL bottle. Pours hazy orange with a creamy white head. Light spiced and grainy aroma. Flavour is sweet malty with a light spiced note. Solid alcohol too. Ends spiced and alcohol dense.

12oz bottle-pours a big white head. Color is yellow/gold with effervescence. Aroma is sweet grain/corn?, fake honey, musty fruit. Taste is boozy, grain/husky, some musty fruit, metallic/aspirin. Interesting interpretation.

2008-05-08. Small bottle labeled Barley Wine, No mention of Simpatico. Golden amber body with a small white head. (3+) Sweet malt aroma, boozy accents. Light underlying fruit. Similar flavour, sweet malt foundation, light caramel notes and hints of sugars? Smooth average plus palate (3+) Decent, but a fairly mildly flavoured take on the style. Very surprised to see such low scoring reviews of this. Bottle shared by Jon Walker

750ml Bottle: Aroma of barnyard, caramel, horse blanket, herbs, corn, grain, bread, and malts. Poured amber in color with a large, rocky, off-white head that lasted throughout. Hazy. Sparkling. Flavor is medium sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of malts, funk, herbs, vegetables, and hops. Light to medium body. Thin, watery texture. Average carbonation. Sweet, nasty finish. I cannot believe I paid $25 for this awful beer.
