(Bottle) Purchased at Spinnakers Wine Merchants in James Bay, Victoria, BC, for $4.09. Pours a thin, semi-clear deep brown beneath a quick dissipating white, weak head. Nose is fairly robust with coffee and strong malt. Decent texture, it really had appeared to be thinner but this is pretty good. Nice buttery flavour amongst the coffee base. A little hint of the 8.5% abv. Fairly good. 7/2/7/3/14

Pours very dark brown, moderate beige head with slight retention and watery lacing. Aroma is biscuity, musty, and yeasty, with some toasted malt and an indistinct hint of raisins or figs and brown sugar, could almost pass for a Barleywine. Flavour begins with a hint of lactic acid then briefly presents raisins and alcohol before a somewhat dry, yeasty and slightly toasty finish. Somewhat thin mouthfeel, low carbo. Not sure if this is supposed to be an Impy Stout or a Barleywine, and I don’t know that they are either having had their Barleywine. An Imperial Brown Ale, I suppose? Certainly not a stout.

(Bottle 33 cl) Pours an opaque dark brown with an orange hue and a dense, light brown head. Aroma of burned malt and alcohol. Quite full-bodied with hard roasted malts, licorice and a little tar. Fairly malt bitter finish. Solid but a little raw and unrefined. 200908
