Commercial Description:
Josh's translation of the Spanish description: A classic English style. Antares Porter promotes digestion, in an abundant sea of foam, with notes of toasted malt and chocolately finish. In antiquity, doctors prescribed this beer, enriched with an egg yolk, for nursing mothers. Nowadays, many remember it for that reason, but prefer to enjoy the virtues of a malty palate accented with hops. With 5.5%abv, this beer is excellent with smoked meats and seafood.

A little bit incipid, and not so malty in taste as others, but it is somewhat greasy. I like the colour, foma andaroma.

Pours a dark, dark brown with a beautiful tan head and great lacing. It has a very raw, sweet aroma - quite present - like a caramelized biscuit. It’s reminiscent of something that I can’t quite put my finger on... Roasty, creamy flavour - sweetness is well-balanced against the subtle hops and it maintains that delicious cookie taste. A light metallic taste detracts only slightly, and the finish is slightly bitter and smoky. The body, while under-carbonated, is rich and creamy. This beer is a very good unoffensive porter - congenial without being bland.

Brown, tan head. Toasty carmel brown sugar nose and profile, lasting bitterness. Somewhat underflavored, not enough roast.

Funny to see my translation from when I entered this beer years ago. At the time I was prepping for a trip to Argentina that never took place. I can safely say that when I was doing that, I never imagined that when I finally got to try this beer I would have bought it ten minutes down the street.

Dark chestnut colour. Complex, distinctive aroma of fudge, nuts, cane sugar, Mexican hot chocolate (Rey Amargo...not so many artificial ingredients and not so much cinnamon in that brand), evaporated milk (Dutch Baby brand...ok, just kidding I can’t tell the difference between different evaporated milks). Fairly full body. Relatively creamy palate, rounded out with sugars. Soft, lush milk chocolate, the maltiest Assam and yet it’s not a big, brash brew. There is a strange juxtaposition here between the full body and rich flavours on one side and on the other side the fact that everything is kind of light on the palate. Not something I see every day, that’s for sure. In the finish, a little bark-like (astringent) note detracts a bit from the overall presentation. Nonetheless, a solid porter, not an imitation stout like so many "porters" these days. I can dig that.

Appearance: dark brown color. Little head, of beige color and with low persistence and consistence. Aroma: toasty, touch of candy, toffee, sweet chocolate and something of coffee. Reminiscences of vanilla, honey and vintage wine. Sweet and with presence floral from hops. Nice smells. Flavor: toasty malty, something smoked, candy, chocolate and coffee (how in the aroma and the profile of style). Reminiscences of figs. Dryness from hops and toasted cereals. Palate: Medium carbonation. Body a few lightly for a Porter, but with silky texture. I was waiting for more of this beer, even more after of to taste the “Antares Scotch Ale”. (sorry for my english)

Bottle. An little off-white ring of foam on top of a redish dark brown body. A little sulphur on the nose and in the taste. Rather yeasty and not very malted considering the attempted style. Barely any roasted flavours. Instead I got grainy malts and a caramelized fruity taste, berries-like. Pleasant medium body and medium carbonation. Drinkable beer but just not what I expect from a porter. Confirms that the most I can expect from an Argentinean porter is to carry my luggage.

Bottled at Pappa Deus, Buenos Aires Reddish mahogany color, medium off-white head. Aroma is sweet, of burnt sugar, smocked, with notes of peach, wood, caramel and coffee. Flavor is sweet, smocked, a bit salty and with a sticky texture.
