Commercial Description:
Josh's translation of the Spanish description: Ale (top-fermentation) has many followers at the Brewpub Antares, in Mar del Plata. A flashy ruby colour, fruity taste and malt accent are typical of beers in this style. And this is as well – because in Scotland – the place where Scotch Ale was born – the climate is good for barley, but not so friendly for hops. Antares Scotch is a beer with a full body. The alcohol level of 6%abv is virtually unnoticeable. It is recommended that Scotch ales should be served at 10C. This is ideal for drinking alone, or with beef, pork or pizza.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm, 8 Feb 2008) Mahogany colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, grainy nose with notes of toffee, nuts and dark fruit. Malty, nutty taste with dark fruit, grain, caramel, chocolate and a short whiff of earthy bitterness in the finish. Malt dominates this tasty beer, but the finish is a bit short. Nice one.

(660ml bottle) Obtained in a trade with mgermani. Large frothy white head with a deep ruby red body. Nose is very enjoyably scotch and malty. Slightly husky and woody but mainly a smooth enjoyable finish. This from someone not terribly fussed on the style.

Bottled at Monks Café, Stockholm. Pours out in a clear brown colour with a large fluffy tan-coloured foam. Mellow malty aroma of butter, fudge, nuts and metal. Light-bodied for the style with notes of hay, nuts and butterscotch. Short finish of nut-shells and brown sugar.

Bottled. A copper beer with a small white head. Aroma is malty and sweety, notes of butterscotch and slightly toasty. Taste is very malty, notes of caramel and brow sugar. Low bitterness. A bit watery in the end

Bottle courtesy of mgermani: Poured an amber color ale with a small foamy head with minimal retention and no lacing. Aroma of medium caramel notes is definitely weaker then expected. Taste is a mix between some sweet malt with some toffee notes but in the end this just seems to be lacking character. Body is a bit thin with some medium carbonation. It appears this one fell short in a style that seems to be hard to master.

Bottle in Buenos Aires. Brown color with a light tan head. The aroma has cereal, biscuits, and semi-sweet malts. Smells like the fresh grains from a homebrew. A dry finish with malty bread flavors.

Draught at the brewerys pub in Buenos Aires, a golden red colour with a foamy off-white head. A bready malt aroma. Bready and earthy in the flavour as well, with a dry and bitter finish.

Mild butterscotch (diacetyl) and caramel malts in the nose. Clear amber coloured body is topped by a shy white head that recedes to ring. Caramel malts in the flavour with fair bitterness are undercut by a slick butterscotch note. Some biscuity malt notes especially in the aftertaste. Medium body with moderate carbonation. A fairly average brown ale. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle (BB 04/08, Brewery Creek, Jul-07).
