Commercial Description:
Abbey Roade is brewed in the tradition of the famous Belgian Abbey-style ales. This wonderful brew is soft and sweet up front. The complex and spicy middle palate is in most part due to the generous addition of dark Belgian candy sugar. This semi-dry ale has notes of ripe plum and pear with a peppery finish.

Draft at Appalacian BC. Medium ivory fizzy head that was mostly lasting, fine-medium sized bubbles, lacing was very sparse, no visible carbonation, transparent, and an orange hue. Malty, hoppy aroma as was the flavor. Tingly mouthfeel. Medium body.

Huge white frothy and foamy head. Honey coloured. Biscuity and orangey nose, phenolic alcohol notes aren’t surprising. Minty and orangey in mouth, almost earthy. Has a rich fruitiness ranging from apricots to raisins and dates. Bready, biscuity, appealing flavors, rather complex. Salty even, like salted crackers. Smooth bodied, light-medium carbonation, sweetish, but efficient.

I had this one at Belgium Comes to Cooperstown 2005 and the only aspect I enjoyed was the fruity-grainy taste/finish. Otherwise its a bit too much on the watery side like the Grande Cru but this one is tastier.

This draft brew from the brewery poured a large sized head of foamy fine to medium sized mostly lasting off-white colored bubbles and left behind a good thick lacing. Its aroma was malty and doughy . Its mouth feel is mild and semi flat with a soft mildly thick palate. Its flavor contained malty hoppy doughy notes.

Draft... Harrisburg Brewfest 2... Hazy, orange ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Great retention. Spicy, grainy aroma with a light note of chocolate. The flavor is all over the place... tangy, malty, spicy, cloyingly sweet. Medium-bodied and silky with lively carbonation. Lengthy, bitter-sweet finish. Totally unsatisfying. More like a saison than a dubbel.

At their brewpub in Gettysburg. With the exception of not having a proper glass to evaluate here we go. Arrived in front of me dark golden with a thin white head. Aroma was banana, pear, spice. Taste was excellent, sweet and crisp a hint of yeast to keep brew honest. Malty undertones revealed the complexity to this dubbel. Mouthfeel was full and inviting smooth finishing. A nice foray into the Abbey Dubbel. Would recommend to everyone. Downside to this brew is that it’s only available at their pubs and not bottled.
