Needs more carbonation, probably didn’t help that the bottle was leaking... chipped. Rich flavours, though, of toffee and malt. notalush (2699), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 27, 2006 Tap at Spuyten Duyvil - An impressive English-style barleywine from an American brewer - dark amber/purple color - big malt aroma, with notes of plum, fig, toffee - very low hop profile, opting more for a malt-heavy, "traditional" flavor - toffee, rolled oats, vinous/port-like flavors - a roasty driness comesin late, which is unusual for the style, and kind of unexpected considering the initial sweetness - pretty solid, with well-masked alcohol, but finishes a little weak. jason (1627), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 25, 2006 draft. Decent aroma and look. Taste is very malty with hardley any hop appearance. Alcohol is very well hidden and leaves a good mouthfeel. Decent barleywine but I would like to taste this after 1-2 years. mike mcneil (660), St Augustine, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 18, 2006 After all these years my first BW on tap. I guess I don’t get out much. In fact, I would venture to guess there’s not a BW to be found ON TAP in the whole state of Florida!! Anyway, enjoyed this at the Gettysburg Brewpub. An extremely dark brown pour, almost black. Decent tight and durable light tan head with good lacing. Aroma very "stout-like" being heavy on the roased malts with moderately assertive notes of dark chocolate, burnt caramel and dark dried fruits. Enjoyable full, round and creamy mouthfeel. Rich, sweet flavors much like the aroma but a bit more agressive. A flavorful myriad of chocolate, burnt malts, molasses, figs, prunes and a touch of vanilla are noted. The alcohol on this one is very well hidden, so the finish is fairly sweet, but not cloying in anyway. Really enjoyed this Barley Wine-Imperial Stout hybrid.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 17, 2006 Updated: Aug 29, 2006In a growler from the brewpub. Half filled, and with a chipped rim, so not an overly impressive showing. Dark black body with a thin light brown head. The lack of head is possibly due to the chipped rim on the growler leaking the carbonation. Sweet caramel aroma with some fruity hints. Sweet caramel some woody hints, and a little bit of fruit. A but undercarbonated, but again probably due to the poor condition the growler was sold in. jeffc666 (1897), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jul 16, 2006 Oak-aged Version - Very dark cola brown that works upa decent tan head that vanishes all too quickly. Sour oak and sweet. Chcocalte and coffee flavors add to the alreday dark color in making one think of an Imperial Stout. Very light on the hops with vinous notes. Thin watery body that is most unexpected. Certainly interesting but too much of a mish-mash in the end. jmuhops (663), Winchester, Virginia, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 19, 2006 Growler from the Gettysburg brewpub. Black with a tan, one-finger head. Deliciously roasted and alcoholic aroma, almost like a World Wide Stout. A lot of dark fruit in there, as well. The roastiness is in the flavor, too, where is does a good job of covering up the high alcohol percentage. Interesting take on the style, almost like a thin Imperial Stout. Points for greatness and thinking outside the glass. jehoey (766), Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 14, 2006 on tap at gettysburg: dark as a stout off the tap into a wine glass. aroma of deep roasted malt like a stout that really fills the nose. the flavor was kind of an interesting stout barley wine hybrid. Interesting and tastey, but it doesn’t make it the best example of a barly wine. I really did enjoy it however, so kuddos to ABC to be brave and stepping a little out of the style. Cheers
