Draft from Brewgrass in Asheville. This was nice. Nearly black pour with tan head. Roasted barley and malt flavors; hint of chocolate. Pretty creamy.

on tap asheville bier garden (incorrectly listed as Black Bear Stout)
Poured a opaque black with a thin tan head. Mild aromas of of roasted black malts. Mouth feel is thin and on the watery side. Flavor is all black malt with very little base malt to give it any body or balance the malt bitterness. Very dry mouth feel. Slightly burnt cardboard flavor at the finish.

Black with a reddish tint, thin tan head. Surprisingly fruity aroma, with some notes of coffee. Coffe flavors dominate. Disappointly thin palate threatens to sabotage the entire experience. Crisp, woodsy finish. sampled at Asheville Brewgrass, 2006.

On tap at Barley’s taphouse in Asheville, NC. Black beer with a brown head that does not last. Smells fruity. Tastes like apple. No roasted flavor. Smooth drink with diacyl perhaps? Is this fermented with lager yeast? There seems to be a wild yeast strain in there if not.
