Aroma of fruity malt with cherry notes, plus green apple, sweet earthy tea and tobacco. Flavor is of medium sweet, caramelized malt, toasty grain, plum, and stale malt syrup. Long, lingering malt presence on the palate. A basic, straight-forward stab at a Scottish Ale. Doesn’t really come together for me. footbalm (1219), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Oct 4, 2006 Deep copper amber brew, good looking glass of beer. Nose was kind of acidic caramel. Not a bad brew, the caramel note was dominating as I thought this would be more acrid with the nose being so. chriso (4852), London, Greater London, England
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 3, 2006 On tap at Gettysburg location, July 2006. Appealing reddish copper colour. Aroma is predominantly malty - biscuity tending towards bready. Equally malty flavour, this time dominated by caramel and toffee. Distinctly sweet. Negligible hop impact. OK, I can’t expect too much of that in a Scottish style ale but, without something else to balance it, the sweetness became a touch domineering. If the malt character had been a bit harder or richer that would have helped, but this is a very smooth brew with a quite light mouthfeel. So it ends up as a good quaffer for those with a preference for sweeter beers. Which isn’t me.

Pours a nice amber color with meduim off white head. Aroma of malt and caramel. Taste is slightly sweet, smoky and dry. Finishes with a bit of fruity flavor but still has the smoke resin lingering. However, it remains very drinkable. FROTHINGSLOSH (2038), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA

The aroma is sweet and malty. The flavor is sweet, malty, lightly roasty, and lightly smoky. A rather nice version of the style. BückDich (4857), McCall, Idaho, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 5, 2006 This brewery seems to make beers according to style, restrained and easy to drink yet with some subtlety. This scottish ale is less malt-forward than most, starting very mild with malt and chocolate notes and nose of molasses. Late malt sweetness lingers. jcwattsrugger (5581), Florida and, New Jersey, USA
