Commercial Description:
Obbie’s Grand Cru is the first in a series of Belgian style beers to come from the Gettysburg ABC. This Belgian Golden combines a slight spiciness with a complex maltiness. The bittering is evident and balanced against a pleasant fruity character. Although the abv. (7.2) is somewhat elevated, this beer is very nice and effervescent on a nice summer day. Obbie is the brain child of one of our great Mug Club Members - Scott Balthasar. If you wish, you may visit Scott’s website and purchase apparel featuring Obbie, or as he is better known... St. Obnoxious!

had this at Belgium Comes to Cooperstown 2005 and its got the yeasty thing going on for it with a pinch of fruitiness but way too watered down to represent the Grand Cru style and beer in general.

BCTC. Brown sugar/caramel nose, a bit of cherry. A bit of chocolate in the flavor with a rich finish.

Notes found from Ommegagn beer fest found while cleaning behind my computer: Shouldnt be called a grand cru since it isnt nearly thier best beer or best belgian for that matter. Pours a nice hazy gold color with a modest light head and good lace. Aroma and flavor is a wierd spicy yeastiness but had an off flavor to it and was slightly slick. Lots of spice to it like coriander orange peel and maybe some wierd lemony flavor. Slightly astringent with a slight acidic aftertaste.

Ommegang fest. Tap. Golden ale with a spciey and sulfuric aroma. It may be off. Sweet malt and coriander, with some medicinal aftertaste. Could be good if fresh.

Tap at Cooperstown. Clear golden, white head. Funky cheesey aroma with a slight sour note. Flavor is malty and funky, and cheesey. Interesting if nothing more.
