Commercial Description:
This full-bodied dry cousin of the stout has a slight roast flavor and is dark brown in color with a red hue. This is London’s classic beer style named for the baggage carriers that appreciated it so much. Governor Pennypacker was one of Pennsylvania’s more notable politicians. He oversaw the construction and held the lavish ceremonies designating the opening of the Commonwealth’s beautiful Capitol Building.

On tap at brewpub (Harrisburg). Dark brown pour, almost black, with a small off-white head. Coffee and light chocolate nose with some roasted malt. Deep roasted and burnt malt flavor with lots of coffee on the finish. Nice clean flavor. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation, actually a little too fizzy maybe. Pretty crisp finish with good length. Nice roasty Porter, maybe a little thin on the finish but nicely balanced and very drinkable.

Black with fine small head of little bubblies. Can’t detect much aroma, however a bubblegum burp from all the other ABC beers I’d just had may have hidden some! Smoky roasty prototypical dark american flavor. Coffee & chocolate. Not bad at all. A little light, easy drinkin’, slightly fizzy.

Nice smooth chocolate porter. Had it on tap at their brew pub in Gettysburg. Maybe a little thin, but definately smooth and drinkable

very simliar to ABC’s stout. Not as dry or as dark. More of a roast to it, more flavor overall. A slightly above average porter.

Thin-bodied, with lots of bitter chocolate and roasty coffee. Typical porter; passable but I just couldn’t get excited about it.

A good porter; does everything the style says it should, but it doesn’t stand out. I thought this was the most enjoyable of App’s beers, outside of the barleywine.

A solid porter, but I have had many just as good. Still, worth a try if you like the style.

Cask... Poured a dark brown / red color with a medium sized tan head that left nice lacing. Weak roasty, chocolate cream aroma. Nice chocolate taste, some more roast and light smoke, cherries as well. Very thin mouthfeel. Not a bad porter.
