Commercial Description:
Rockville Rye Ale is a unique creation developed by our brewers which utilizes 15 % rye malt, flaked rye and flaked oats. The combination of these grains with the barley malt offers a slightly heavier malt complexity than normally found in a light copper ale. The grainy rye flavors emerge from the interesting sweetness and are balanced nicely against a spicy hop finish.

Draft at the Gettysburg location, July 2006. An amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet with light notes of berries. The flavor is sweet with primary notes of berries, but also light notes of bread and fruit (primarily oranges), leading to a dry end. All in all it is just too light for my taste.

On tap. Poured an amber color with a smaller head. No other specific aroma or smell other tha Rye (but not over powering). Not a bad beer.

On tap at Gettysburg location, July 2006. Attractive, gingery amber colour. Like several of the Appalachian brews, I found this one a bit on the sweet side for my taste. Smooth and a touch bready. The idea of a rye beer is interesting but I’m not entirely sure what flavour elements it introduces. But I kept getting tastes of a soft drink called Vimto that we have in the UK (don’t know whether it gets to the US). Somehow, whilst an interesting concept, I felt this beer lacked attack and the overall effect was a tad bland.

Nice crisp clean ale with a very dry finish. It is surprising that you can notice the rye by only using 15% but they make it work. A very good session ale.

On tap, Harrisburg location. Pours a clear light gold under a small fizzy white head. Lots of visible carbonation. Not much aroma, some bready rye, a little bit of hops, and some sweetness. Flavor has a nice earthy rye taste up front, with a nice balanced bitter finish. Mouthfeel is fairly light with fizzy active carbonation. Light and airy on the palate. This was a little light on the rye for my tastes personally, though as it warmed up from the fridgid temperature it was served at, the flavor did open up a little.

Sampled at the brewfest in Adamstown. Pours copper with a small white head. Aroma of fruit, slight pine, and rye. The flavor is fruit, caramel, mild hops, and rye. good beer.
