The aroma is sweet with light notes of berries. The flavor is sweet with primary notes of berries, but also light notes of bread and fruit (primarily oranges), leading to a dry end. All in all it is just too light for my taste. argo0 (7015), Washington DC, USA

Like several of the Appalachian brews, I found this one a bit on the sweet side for my taste. Smooth and a touch bready. The idea of a rye beer is interesting but I’m not entirely sure what flavour elements it introduces. But I kept getting tastes of a soft drink called Vimto that we have in the UK (don’t know whether it gets to the US). Somehow, whilst an interesting concept, I felt this beer lacked attack and the overall effect was a tad bland.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 27, 2003 Nice crisp clean ale with a very dry finish. It is surprising that you can notice the rye by only using 15% but they make it work. A very good session ale. kramer (2524), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 17, 2006 On tap, Harrisburg location. Pours a clear light gold under a small fizzy white head. Lots of visible carbonation. Not much aroma, some bready rye, a little bit of hops, and some sweetness. Flavor has a nice earthy rye taste up front, with a nice balanced bitter finish. Mouthfeel is fairly light with fizzy active carbonation. Light and airy on the palate. This was a little light on the rye for my tastes personally, though as it warmed up from the fridgid temperature it was served at, the flavor did open up a little.
