An attractive bright golden amber with a decent white head. Decent dusky hoppage and some earthy malt. Pleasant fruity notes. Bitter finish. Straight down the line but drinkable enough. chriso (4796), London, Greater London, England
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 1, 2008 Bottle (bottle conditioned) at London tasting, May 2008 (courtesy harrisoni). BBE July 2008. Presumably named after Didcot power station, which dominates (some might say blights) the view for miles around. Cloudy amber colour, with quite lively condition. Despite the claims floral hop aroma, I found toffeeish malt to be more prominent. Fairly bitter hoppy flavour, tending slightly towards sharp astringence. Mouthfeel is clean but a little fizzy, suggesting slight over-conditioning in bottle. As Hughie says this is a "straight down the middle" bitter, in a traditional style. Nothing wrong with that (in moderation), but this style of beer usually puts on a better display on cask than in bottle.
