The aroma is quite nice and inviting with smoky woody malts vapours along with caramel, plum, fig, and grassy hops esters. The taste had great smoky tones of wood and meat with a malty sweet backbone leading towards a snappy bitter finish. Long woody aftertaste. The mouth feel is chewy and soft with a warming trend. Outstanding and my favorite from the fest, get ya some. TAR (2095), Boulder Co., Colorado, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 2, 2004 Draft: Unfiltered apricot. Milky ivory foam produces solid lacing. Smoked/lightly caramelized meat, airborne malt dust, and toasted graham aroma. Briskly minerally with plum hints. Creamy, slightly oily mouthfeel. Feathery-soft bubbles. Highly evident smoke flavor melds with the slippery fruitiness and staunch mineral underlay, which pillars the smoked malt frame. Malt breadiness becomes more apparent, midway, deflecting the notable, aniselike hop spice. Firm cottony texture matches the mineral astringency, which continually deepens the malts. Just enough airiness and caramel to bolster the depth and drinkability. Faint plum acidity and tangy smoked meat accentuates the sweet and woody malt aspects. Dry and airy finish with leafy hops and tobacco in the background, but remaining exceptionally smoky and malty. Marvelously assembled Smoked Lager. cb (809), Wheat Ridge, Colorado, USA

The perfect hint of meaty smoke rather than the virtual smoked sausage offered up in many. Hint of wet cedar in the aroma. Subtle, chewy smoked flavor that dissapates slowly. Medium-bodied malt character with a wonderful bittersweet finish. JoeM500 (1876), Chicago (little italy), Illinois, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 8, 2004 Clear orange at the top of the pint, but omninously dark orange at the bottom, sticky white/tan lacing head. Aroma of smoked ham and dried raw bacon. Great mouthwatering aroma. Nice mouthfeel with plenty of other subtle tastes behind the strong smokey Rauchbier flavors, soft applesauce, fresh baked bread, crisp caraway seed hints at the finish. An awesome beer! Spicy hops plus big oily smoky bread flavors makes this a real treat - growler gone in no time! Warms up very nicely. jeremyd365 (109), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA

Pours pretty normal-lager-looking but with a solid smokey smell. The flavor hits you ever harder--it’s like drinking the complete essence of a campfire. I don’t automatically assume bacon or meat, but definitely campfire. One might not think a smoked beer sounds appealing, but I would definitely recommend people to give it a try anyway, and you may be pleasantly surprised. This one was amazing! 11026 (1779), Alabama, USA

Well balance malt, lots of nice smokey flavor. Like liquid smoked salmon. Hops present in finish, earthy flavored. Well done. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 3, 2006 Clear copper-orange in color with a creamy, sudsy, thick white wrung for the head. Nicely done aroma takes on smoked ham, brown sugar, caramel, dried and smoked bacon, and country confidence. Sweet, smoky, flavorful bliss. Canadian bacon and smoked ham come calling, with au juis of brown sugar and a few raisins thrown in for good measure. Caramel and butterscotch syrup engulf a doggy bone predicament. Borders syrupy sweetness on a summer sausage afternoon. Balance is bon, finishing with slippery caramel, buttery toffee, and, yep, smoked ham again, mon ami.
