Vanilla aroma. Black strong in alcohol and a little rich on the palate. Fruity with a crisp and slightly dry coffee roast finish. flatmatt (221), Northville, Michigan, USA Aug 10, 2009 On cask at the brewpub. Pours dark brown to black with a bubbly brown head. Aromas of dark roasty coffee and cocoa. Flavor is similar, with roasted coffee and dark cocoa, lots of roasty bitterness. Medium bodied, but with a watery mouthfeel. Nice flavors, but boring palate. xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA Jul 23, 2009 On cask at the brewery. Opaque black with small tan head. Aroma is roasty with slight roast and sourness and a little alc. Flavor is off-dry roast, slight sourness, not bad. Medium body, lightly syrupy. Pretty great, gerrit, you would love this. ansermadide (496), Kyle, Texas, USA Dec 4, 2008 From 10-Beer Flight at Arbor Brewing Company Brewpub on December 1, 2008.
Lovely lacing! Black, even darker with a much sweeter aroma than their Irish Stout. Silky palate, very easy going down. Very resinous and sweet. Good, but has an odd aftertaste. Sour. Gurst (338), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Sep 6, 2008 A great porter! Dark chocolate kicks in, but it quickly melts into coffee. Deep, roasted flavor combines well with an excellent thick and creamy body. Finish is a bit of alcohol, but mostly fruit, bread crust. jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Sep 3, 2008 pours a light brown head and black color. Aroma is dark malt-roasty, dark fruit. Taste is slightly sweet, dark malt-roasty, dark fruit-slight sourness. Minimum/no carbonation. Aftertaste-some dusty/coffee. jeremyd365 (109), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Aug 20, 2008 Poured to a 4oz sample glass from the cask right in the pub. It was a thick chocolately brown with low carbonation and a small light brown head.
Smelled and tasted both of chocolately coffee. Not huge flavor but very pleasant. I enjoyed the cask pull at the "cellar temperature".
Definitely a drinkable beer--could have had a little more body. mj (4975), Colorado, USA Jan 4, 2008 Cask at the brewery. Sweet nose of malted milk balls and dry grains, resembling a dry stout at times. Dark and oily, silky, very fine and quiet on the tongue, with a delicate motor oil silkiness and a light astringency to the roasted malts. Fairly good, and I think the cask adds a lot to this beer.
