| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 1/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Sep 6, 2005 Grainy, sweet malt aroma with some dark malts apparent and a hint of liquorice. Opaque brown body with no head. Charcoal-like dark malts are grainy in the flavour with some leafy hops. Light body with strong carbonation. Sampled on tap at the brewpub. Tmoney99 (4783), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 5, 2005 Draft as sampler at Arbor Brewing. Dark color with medium head that diminshed quickly. Medium malt aroma. Medium body with smooth texture. Good flavor of malt and a medium dry finish. Very good alt brew. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jul 30, 2005 Glass at the brewpub in the company of those sexy Montrealers Rastacouere, Olivier_MTL and tiggmtl. Very dark borwn with a shy hint of head....low-gravity sort of nose, touches of dry woody malt struggle to be smelled above the ambient nasal pollution...body is moderately sweet, oaky and a bit nutty, with touches of French vanilla and prunes...malty-thick and fairly creamy body...ehh, this is just OK says the AltKing. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 30, 2005 Very dark brown, far more so than anticipated, but surprisingly quite clear. Dominating spalt like hops come out very leafy and earthy. It develops powerful rooty notes that feel somewhat sweet, but it is not fruity at all. Kinda roasty and coffeeish, stouty if I may say so which I assume is why it is so appreciated here. Biting aftertaste, medium bodied. Tons of bready dark malts for an alt. It is clean on top of that, a fairly interesting beer and I don’t mind it not sticking to the stylelines, but it didn’t do a whole lot for me. Crosling (1856), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jul 15, 2005 Sampled on draught @ Arbor Brewing Company in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Very dark for the style, black, with brown edges. Chalky, malt accented aroma with hints of nuts, roasted malts, caramel and plum. Medium body with a slick feel. Not much like an alt, honestly and much more like a porter. Mocha, toffee and coffee flavors. ElGaucho (1730), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | May 29, 2005 Sweet, caramel nose. Darkest red, with no head. Coffee flavors, but thin. Some milk chocolate. Bad aftertaste and overall, simply too thin.
