Commercial Description:
A surprisingly easy-drinking dark ale with a medium body, malty palate and a smooth dry finish. Our alt is brewed in the tradition of the German "sticke" or "secret" alt which was a fuller, darker, and higher alcohol alt served unadvertised by German brewpubs at regular ale prices as a reward to regular customers who knew to ask for it.

12oz - Aroma is roasted dark malts, toffee, chocolate and hazelnut. Pours black with a huge lasting brown head and good lacing. Flavor matches aroma but is much roastier. Palate is creamy and thick. A great Fall brew and very tasty.

On tap at Arbor Brewing Co. Dark brown body, thin buff head. Light, sweet aroma of toast and berries. Creamy, soft but flavorful body with toast, berries, and touches of chocolate, before finishing with grassy hops. Light but appropriate. Nice.

On tap at Ashley’s. Very dark brown, small beige head. Interesting aroma - sweet, woody, herbal, fig, smoke, and malt. Hops and malt that both hit the back of your throat in odd taste. Everything is at the beginning in this taste - the middle and end are bland and watery. Interesting Alt, but just ok.

Draught at Ashley’s in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Pours a very dark ruby-brown with a spare diminishing tan head. Very mild aroma of sweet malt, maybe some dark fruit...I don’t know it’s very hard to smell anything. Watery flavour of malt and grain -- man, that’s watery. Light bodied. Didn’t care for this at all, a useless beer.

Draught at Ashley’s in Ann Arbor. Dark ruby-brown with a small tan head. Dark malt nose with a bit of chocolate and fruit as it warms - quite nice. Flavour is short with grainy malt and a quick finish - doesn’t live up to the aroma at all. It also has more booze in the flavour than I’d expect from a 5% beer. I got bored with this after half the pint and ordered something else.

Draught. At Ashley’s in Ann Arbor. Poured almost opaque deep reddish-brown with a small creamy beige head. Dusty sweet roast malt aroma, slightly bitter nuttiness, hints of spice and wood, but just too faint even after warming. Dry nutty bitter taste, light chocolately malt, had a thin finish and no alcohol character at all, strange in an alt. A bit water, creamy dry mouthfeel, some carbonation, quick finish with no aftertaste - this was easy to drink but incredibly forgettable.

Draft @ Ashley’s in Ann Arbor. Very dark brown with a small tan head. Sweet grainy malt and a touch of alcohol in the aroma. Light yeast and not quite anise. Light dilute roast and light sour roast malt. Average to thin palate. Pretty dissappointing. Alt? DNF.
