Taste is rich and somewhat sour. The malts used taste a bit odd but the hops shine. There’s a bit of sourness but a solid beer. Shag (1923), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA

It defines balance. The flavor consists of pine, grapefruit, and orange peel. A nice malt backbone followed by a bitter pine taste. I really enjoyed this one. 21iceman40 (1731), vienna, West Virginia, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Mar 24, 2005 Well I found one bottle of this finally, geez an Arcadia beer hard for me to find, who knew? Anyway on to the rating: Deep amber hue with a frothy fading off-white head and good lace. The aroma has notes of grassy and mild piney hops, caramelized and toasted malting, a hint of coffee, and twangy peppery and citric esters. The taste starts moderately bitter but not in your face, balance well with the malt bill. Undertone of orange zest and white pepper with a dash of bready cloyness. The feel starts sharp but fades into a mettalic and veggie blandness. This one starts great but in the end falls short of what I was hoping for. A good effort from a brewery that does better with more malty styles. Earlier Rating: 7/28/2003 Total Score: 3.8 At MBG Summer fest: Cloudy amber hue with small but solid white head. Aroma was that of a pine forest with sweet roasted chestnuts thrown in. Nice hoppy taste, found that the balance was okay, wasn't as overbearing as the aroma would lead us to believe. Lively and very dry mouthfeel, medium-bodied. Arcadia's first true hophead beer. Not in bottles (yet?). scraff (1955), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 22, 2005 Hazy dark amber, huge fizzy off white head. As it warmed, the nose held hoppy notes of candied grapefruit rind, tangerine, apricot, and melon, with some light pepper notes lying just below the surface. Flavor was all about the hops with only light sweet caramel malt showing through late in the game. Hardly noticeable though. Medium bodied once the crazy fizzy carbonation settled, dry, bitter, lightly sweetened finish. My expectations were high, but got less then anticipated....

Rating # 710
A highly carbonated brew indeed. The body is a brilliant shade of bronze and the head is a faded khaki. There is large maltyness to this IPA… but the hops always shine through. Large caramelized grapefruit, with a light sprinkling of brown sugar. Decent notes of caramel flowery hops, yet the hop seems a bit faded, musty and old. I grab some style of funky Belgian character here, somewhat feminist of that XX Bitter I recently had. The palate is lush, juice and full… finish is pine like and formidably dry.
#999’s got a clever uniqueness to it. OldGrowth (1434), North Carolina, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 16, 2005 Bottle, trade with Silphium. Good nose, Sweet. Carmel, a hint of whiskey, grapefruit/orange, little mediciny, little nutty.
Great hazy orangy red color, small head that faded quickly. Bittersweet flavors. Grapefruit, whiskey, tad plasticy. Thinner bodied, creamy lite mouthfeel, bitter dry finish. Tasty though kinda odd with the mediciny/ plasticy thing. hopscotch (5540), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Mar 14, 2005 Bottle... Murky, deep golden ale with a large, frothy, white head. Terrific retention. The aroma is all about caramel, citrus fruit and evergreen. The flavor is well-balanced with notes of toffee, lemon and grapefruit rind. Light to medium-bodied and creamy with fizzy carbonation. Lengthy, bitter, bone-dry finish.
