pours a cloudy dark caramel with a one finger creamy tan head. aroma is toasted caramel malt with some hops and dark fruit. has a medium body with descent lacing and good carbonation. flavor is the same as aroma but stronger and with some alcohol especially at the end. has a somewhat dry aftertaste and as it warms more toasted malt comes out. the last of it pours like rusty cloudy water. its ok.

Cloudy, rust-brown pour with a medium sized, foamy head. Slightly odd, pungent aroma - soap, yeast, honey. Lightly fizzy on the palate. Flavor is impressive - no shortage of hops or malt. It is a little odd - some unusual hops in here, maybe? There are hints of alcohol, orange, honey, maybe even a little coriander. The hops end up dominating this well-endowed ale - good stuff.

Bottle. Orange/amber color, offwhite head. Malty, oily aroma, nutty and with some vanilla. Very strong peppery alcohol flavor. Sticky and the alcohol shows way too much...

at kelly’s hell with the lid off 2008. pours a hazy honey color, lots of caramel malt in the nose, some grassy hops, and a bit of spice. taste is more caramel malts and some cherry notes. finishes sweet with light tartness and light bitterness. sticky and thick mouthfeel. better than it’s rated, in my opinion, but not much of a standout.

cloudy-brown with, dark beige head. roasted malt, some faint java on nose dark malt, heavily roasted malt, finishes odd and alcohol comes gallopping fast at the end. not bad, but had better styles from arcadia

22 oz bottle labeled vintage 2006 poured a fairly dark brown amber with a nice one finger thick head and lighter carbination. aroma has bitter caramel malt, sweet apples, and some earth. much better tasting than the smell with a fairly hefty medium body and surprising carbination on the tongue. flavor has nice bitter malt, dark plumb, a little peat, caramel, and has plenty of sweetness to match up to the bitterness. a much nicer beer than i had anticipated which is always a nice surprise. good dose of yeast in the bottom dumped in at the end resulted in thick clouding but cut down on the bitterness and made the beer less enjoyable.

Bottle. Aroma has notes of chocolate, hops, crystal, caramel, and something else I can’t peg. Large off-white head and cloudy medium amber/brown hue. Flavor is malty caramel with some roasted malt and dried berry fruit but there is something else that’s throwing off the finish. Maybe a bad batch or maybe some age would help. Palate was nice and medium/full. A good brew but something is lingering and throwing off everything. Will need to re-rate.

Pours amber with an off white head. Aroma is malty wtih some hops. Flavor is slightly malty with some residual sweetness at the finish.
