| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Jul 1, 2009 22 oz bottle, via puzzl. Pours a clear dark copper body with a one finger fizzy off-white head that fell to a patchy film. The nose is heavy toasty, toffee, and sweet crystal malt with some moderate alcohol, resiny hops, and brown sugar. Very simple and one dimensional flavor, lots of crystal and toffee malt and not much else. Brown sugar and alcohol with some resiny hops on the finish. Mouthfeel is fairly heavy but rather lifeless and unexciting. Moderate fizzy carbonation with a warming finish. Too clean and simple, there’s no layering or complexity to the flavor at all. Boring. alobar (1032), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 31, 2009 Pours a murky watery brown with an off-white head that vanishes at the end of the pour. Aroma of hops, grass, caramel... Flavor of molasses, caramel, with a slight hops bitter end. Nice beer! Surprised to see it rate so low. Gethinbeer (1006), Nova Scotia, Canada
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 25, 2009 From bottle. Aroma of hops with some floral notes. As it settles old farts mixed in with caramel. Dirty brown flood water colour with a thin white head, almost lace. Caramel flavour, a little sour tasting. The beer may have spoiled perhaps? Tangy finish. porterhouse (1160), Alna, Maine, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 25, 2009 (22 oz. bottle (2008) from Bootleggers) Pours slightly murky rubyish dark amber with one finger of biege head that recedes to a thin layer. Malty aroma of caramel and toffee, perhaps wood, perhaps rum. Mouthfeel is a touch fizzy and loose, not bad but perhaps a little thin. Lightly sticky on back end. Flavor is quite a malt-fest, almost bock-like save for the hoppiness on the back end. Flavors of caramel, toffee and alcohol. A bit of smokiness like a doppelbock. A hint of licorice and some dark chocolate in the finish. Medium-light hoppy bitter bite in the finish. A bit hot. Really not a bad beer - not sure why the low ratings. sunevdj (1784), Copenhagen OE, Denmark
