Poured out a deep brown color, with a sticky tan head. Aromas are of roasted malts, caramel, burnt sugar. Flavors are about the same as the aromas. Nothing special here. | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | May 13, 2008 Objectively speaking:
A dark, caramelized ale that remains straightforward and not too bright.
I like:
Concealed alcohol. Interesting woodsy/leafy nuances. Not feeling too sweet.
I dislike:
Highly filtered. Rather loose mouthfeel for a malt-focused ale. Not very complex. Not feeling very fresh. Sprayed flavours. Extreme cleanliness for the style. Boutip (2360), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 13, 2008 Bottle courtesy of goryshkewych: Poured a deep clear copper color ale with an average foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of sweet caramel malt with some subtle notes of toffee. Taste is also dominated by some mediums sweet caramel malt notes with light toffee notes also noticeable. Some very light acidic notes were also noticeable which might indicate the start of an infection. Average body with medium carbonation and no apparent alcohol. A bit short on character for this style. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 10, 2008 22oz bottle pours dark brown amber with little head. Sweet maple and caramel malt, very low hop presence in the nose, mostly a maple syrup, brown sugar, plum and nut aroma. Similar flavor - sweet, malt-forward, light notes of nuts, fresh tobacco and wood along with a more pronounced maple malt sweetness and dark fruit. Ok beer overall, really a surprise after seeing the ratings. brewblackhole (1374), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 2, 2008 Fruity, alcohol , whopatuee like aroma, that fades pretty fast taste is like a drink , made of vodka and caramel apple essence, with dings of hops in the fade. Not a momentous tasting brew, but I certainly enjoyed sipping it during a cold rainey night jcr (1153), Jasper, Indiana, USA

Strong aroma of lacquer and alcohol with hints of molasses, juicy fruit gum and brown sugar. The flavor is moderately sweet and moderatley bitter with an hint of brett. Strong alcoholic, off finish. Medium body. Very little carboantion. Odd flavor. Odd finish. Not enjoyable. Braudog (3762), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 21, 2008 22 oz’er. This introduces itself with a nice giant, poofy top over a dark copper ale. The aroma has got an American hoppiness to it, but also hints at a bigger monster beneath. Indeed, right on the first sip there’s an impression of rich malt, stinging flavors of dark fruit and brown sugar, topped off with a nice citrusy top. Decent. (#3427, 4/21/2008)
