| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 12, 2006 Any first impressions?
-A ring of foam circles the reddish blackness.
-Whisky barrel dryness and alcohol leaps towards the nostrils, with some roastiness left behind.
-Wooden dryness and vanilla sweetness coexist peacefully in the flavor profile.
-The lean maltiness and appropriate carbonation offer an coherent mouthfeel.
What if you dig deeper?
-An alcohol nibble isn’t too bothersome, but not exactly my cup of tea at this gravity.
-Some black bean maltiness is found within, rather dunkel bock-like.
-There is too much barrel apport for my tastes, but it remains an interesting experiment.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 1, 2006 22 oz. bottle, many thanks to OhioDad! Pours thick, opaque sable colored with brick highlights and a creamy light brown head. Aroma is heavily influenced by the former contents of the bourbon barrel in which this was aged, leaving whiskey and oak notes, along with vanilla, roasty malts, dark chocolate and coffee. Flavor is sweet and boozey, like a chocolate-whiskey cake, dark ripe fruits as well with a lightly tannic character and herbal hop notes leading up to an astringent finish. Full bodied, oily smooth mouthfeel. This one is listed as being 7%, but wow, I have to say it occurred to me as being much higher than that. But overall a very nice treat from the midwest! | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 31, 2006 Bottle: Dark brown color, nose of tight sharp roast and an abundant woody bourbon salty note. The flavor is a bit spicy with light hops, some salty roast, light vegetal notes, lots of bitterness and a creamy full salty woody bourbon note. The finish is strong, lots of bourbon. I could use a bit more balance, the salty character of the wood shines a bit too bright. Not too bad, but it’s decent. Thanks Ken! IndianaRed (1560), Boise, Idaho, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 31, 2006 Bottle Pours a very dark brown with a large, coarse but quickly fading brown head. Spotty lacing. Lots of Burbon and vanilla in the aroma. Some light roasted chocolate notes also. Flavor is more woody and bitter. Feel is a bit thin and quick. Lots of darker roastd and cofee notes in the trailer. Slightly astringent and chalky at the end as well. Thanks to OhioDad for this one. BuckeyeBoy (1674), Boise, Idaho, USA

Pleasantly sweet and smoky flavors with a bland coffee aftertaste. The feel is thin and leaves a slightly thin film in your mouth. Really nice. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 25, 2006 22 oz. bottle via trade with hopdog - Pours a deep brown color with a good size tan head. Light lacing. Whoa, love the aroma. Some roasted malt and lots of Oak. Unfortunately, the flavor is mainly oak and alcohol. Man, I should have sat on this bottle for awhile. The bourbon flavor sits on the palate. Medium body. Since i’m a Jim Bean fan, I like this beer. Probably not for others. Thanks Steve.
