22 oz. bottle. 2007 vintage. Dark black pour. Thin, light brown head. Strong, boozy, bourbon aroma. Oak presence is nice and muted. Flavor is of strong bourbon notes. Some vanilla, but not enough for my liking. As the beer warms up, roasted chocolate notes step out from the shadows. Finish is of warming alcohol. A bit unbalanced. I enjoyed it, but may need some more time to age.

Aug 2, 2008 Poured from a 22-oz bottle a deep, dark brown with an espresso colored head. Smell of vanilla and roasted malt. Taste of chocolate, roasted malt and faint hint of bourbon. The beer did go down smooth.

Jul 10, 2008 Appearance: Pours a near black body with some reddish hints to it and capped by a well-sized, beige head.
Smell: Dark malt aroma, predominately, with a touch of chocolate and molasses. Lesser notes of vanilla and oak. To my dismay, there’s also a teensy, worrisome touch of sourness up in this bouqet.
Taste: Dark maltiness with tastes of chocolate and a few globs of gooey molasses. Restrained sweetness. some dark fruits. Minor hints of vanilla, oak, and light brown sugar. There’s a noticeable bit of sourness within. All the flavors make a curtain call in the slightly warming finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: Not too bad beyond that sour twang in the flavor. I’m sure it’s nothing a little tinkering and adjusting couldn’t cure.

Jul 3, 2008 22oz bottle. Robust porter, pours black. Light tan head. sweet aroma of toast, some maple. Flavor is sweet malt. Lots of roast. Nice bourbon barrel notes. Cherries, some fusel. Tasty beer.

Jun 22, 2008 22oz from Warehouse Beverage, Cleveland Heights. Nice oily black pour, clearly a very thick body, with a 2 inch fluffy head. Impressive but, uh oh, there’s a vegetal funk in the nose which suggests possible infection. Upon drinking it, there’s more of a bourbon character in there which crowds out the possibility of skunkitude. Decent notes of vanilla and oak blend with the chocolate malts, but there’s just not a whole lot about the base beer that’s very interesting. Meh.
