This barleywine pours a medium brown gold color from a 22oz bottle. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is malty and sweet, touch of brown sugar. Medium bodied barley wine. Malts are caramel and sweet, touch of brown sugar and vanilla. More in the English style of Barleywine. It was a touch sweet and a touch thin for a big Barleywine. Mouthfeel is a touch thin and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

A thick, deep, tan head settles slow above a thick, hazy copper body with a vermillion glow. Fruity aroma with apple and citrus, a touch of oil paint, rye and a big caramel base. Full, sticky mouth seems the perfect texture for a barleywine, yet a little bit of a tongue-and-gut burn detracts from the overall palate. Lemon, orange and grapefruit fruity/tartness plays well with thick, sweet, candied caramel with notes of semi-sweet chocolate. This is huge, this is diverse, this is a very good barleywine. I am rather stunned as I look down at recent low rating numbers, and above at the 37.6 Style Percentile.

22. Thanks, uh...well, uh, sorry, man, whoever sent this to me. I appreciate it, and please don’t take my forgetfulness personally. Pours deep grainy brown with a thick, moussy darkish tan head. No lace to speak of. Big fruity nose--oranges bolstered by caramel and toffee. Some dark pitted fruit there, too, but I’ll be deviled if I can put a name to any of them. Thick, creamy body on the attack, with a decent amount of carb in support. Big, goopy mid-palate, really a meal-in-itself approach to barleywinemaking. All the sweet malty goo hangs around for the mid-palate, and the hops are so perfectly blended that you could almost convince me that citric flavor is something offbeat and special about the malt bill. Long, clingy finish, very lightly bitter. This is a really high-spirited (pun *not* intended) and fun to drink beast of a big beer. Kinda goes with the punny name. Might be good fun to cellar it.

Bottle, chris_o shindig. Coppery red, off-white head. Slightly acetic, astringency present. Lactic hop. Hints of malt. Mouth is oversweet with a hint of hops. Palate is more balanced.

Bottle on DLD at Hampton Inn tasting courtesy of patrick767. This makes a thin tan head over a clear, medium dark amber body. Candy malt aroma. It hints at several things, but never fully explores them. The flavor is mostly sweet, again lacking real depth, and is delivered on a slightly thin plaate.

This was a pleasant barleywine. Deep copper body with hints of red. Slight beige head. Aroma of dried fruit, caramel, citrus hops, and a wisp of alcohol. Medium-full body with gentle carbonation. Pleasantly sweet taste, caramel in the forefront, followed by a touch of hops and a warm alcohol finish. A very drinkable brew.

Very sweet carmel flavor with a bit of sourness late. No hop bitterness. Brown color with medium head. Medium body.
