| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 19, 2009 Bottle and draught, Spring 2008 at Sunset Grill. Very thick, viscous-looking mahogany-to-black body with a dense tan head. Tar and chocolate rise up from the liquid, with cinnamon??? and other such spices coming in as well. Very rich nose to it, with vanilla as an afterthought. In the mouth it’s somewhat less chewy/thick than expected, with a more dried-out mouthfeel, thanks in part to the spiciness. They don’t really say anything about spice additions, but man is this stuff full of cinnamon. To the point of it being way too much. Chocolate element is well-done and would have been highly pleasant without the dry, fatiguing spiciness. Vanilla and sweet caramel round out the finish, with little in the way of roast or bitterness. Some floral hop notes are appreciated but lend little to the overall character of the beer. Too spicy! Hank1980 (764), Athens, Georgia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 18, 2009 Pours dark brown/black with small tan head, no lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, fruit, molasses, chocolate. Taste is also lightly roasted, with plenty of dark fruit, a little tart, and a little sweet. Lactose isn’t really detectable. Finish is tart. Mouth is medium, a little thin, little carbonation. Overall, an interesting and enjoyable beer. Alldaydrinker (558), Norwood, Massachusetts, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 18, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark black color with no absolutely no head. Nose is poor and displaying only some molasses, roasted malt and cocoa. Mouthfeel is thin and light. Initial taste of cocoa, dark fruit, light smokiness, and roasted malt. All the flavors seem to blend and mix with one another. Carbonation was there but on the poor side and give this beer more a liquor type feel. Reminds more of the consistency of Newport Storm 07. Palate duration is average and definitely oily too. redlight (1475), Winter Park, Florida, USA

Not much chocolate in this one. Flavor consists mostly of roasted malts with a hint of smoke and dark fruit. Mouthfeel is too thin and watery. Overall, just an average stout.
