Indra (1815), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Apr 1, 2008 12oz. bottle. Aroma is immediately rife with fruity, floral hops, citric and strongly fragrant, along with lighter, sugary malt notes and suggestions of pine needles, tangerine, orange and faint alcohol, which becomes a bit more apparent as it warms, along with a certain faintly doughy, cake-like character. Hazy golden amber in color with a slight but lasting head. Flavor is pretty well dominated by the hop profile, bringing a dose of fresh citrus including orange, grapefruit and pineapple, grassy spice and a strong amount of bitterness late, also seeing just enough honeyish malt sweetness here to keep things in line, finishing dry and bitter with a dash of peppery alcoholic fire. Resinous, gently acidic and warming on the palate with a full body. This is a pretty fresh batch, seemingly. Very flavorful and mostly in balance. Thanks to Gregis for picking some of this up for me.
nimbleprop (551), Washington, Washington DC, USA Jul 17, 2008 12oz bottle pours a translucent orange with a thin, white head. Aroma is strong with pine, grapefruit, tropical fruits, oranges, pineapple and some spice. Flavor has a strong citrus bitterness, spicy malts, herbs, some biscuit, oranges, honeydew and a little toffee. Finish has a lot of bitterness and a medium body. Good, but not great. JoeMcPhee (3628), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jun 29, 2008 Hazy orange beer with a thick sticky off-white head. Aroma is lightly orangey with a touch of tropical fruit as well. Thick and sweet smelling with a bit of honey. As it warms there is a bit of muskiness as well. It’s quite sweet and a bit of honey on the palate. Meh... not really my style of IIPA. It’s not really bad, it’s just not that good either. dchmela (617), Orlando, Florida, USA Jun 24, 2008 Thanks to Polomagnifico for this. Pours a slightly honey orange amber with a thin off white head. Nice grapefruit juice, floral, and pine aroma, very nice focus on the hops. Taste is big hop BITE, with lots of grapefruit dryness and a little bit of malt. The bitter bang that starts it off mellow a bit in the finish, but there is a good amount of bitterness there just in case you forgot about it. A very tasty hop bomb and, dare I say, quite drinkable as there enough malt to keep it from being too bitter. Very nice. nefarious (52), grand blanc, Michigan, USA Jun 16, 2008 typical orange medium head Impy IPA pour. Same with the aroma: citrus fruits and pine. Floral, citrus and a slight raison flavor with a bitter hop bite at the end with a nice finish. The mouthfeel is a touch thin. But not bad kinda run of the mill for this style, but dbl IPAs are one of my faves so its good. rocbyter (586), Waterbury, Connecticut, USA Jun 14, 2008 Light hop aroma compared to the taste. Very hazy orange color with a small white head. Bitter beginning with a mix of citrus and floral hops finishing with a sweet hop taste.
