GG (1609), NorCal, California, USA Aug 30, 2008 First, thanks to mmmm///beer for sending this my way. After enjoying a bottle of Green Flash’s IIPA, this was obvously a stark contrast in the difference in brewing styles for the same type of beer.
The beer pours out a medium-dark amber color, slightly hazy with a three-finger thick creamy off-white head. The aroma has a nice floral hop aroma, some light flesh fruit (apricot came to mind), with some subtle grass notes.
The flavor was suprisingly sweet, especially just after enjoying the Green Flash. Quite the difference. Sweet was the main flavor, with hops playing second fiddle, and that’s just wrong for an IIPA. Still, it was a nice beer. Malt action abounds, with some floral and citrusy hops showing some character, but just not enough. Nice beer though. jgentgesdo (564), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Aug 28, 2008 Pours amber with a medium off-white head. Nose is grassy/flowery hops and a sweet, almost honeyed malt flavor. Flavor is well balanced floral hops and malt, very malty, even intensely malty. There is a citrus undercurrent that comes more to the fore towards the aftertaste. Alcohol is well hidden. Very strong hops flavor, but subdued bitterness. Pretty good. Svesse (2597), Hässelby, Sweden Aug 26, 2008 (Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm) Dark amber colour with lasting, beige head. Fruity, hoppy nose with orange peel and black-currant. Fruity, malty taste with notes of orange peel and black-currant. Grapefruit and resin in the finish. Solid malt foundation gives it a very good balance. Very nice beer. BrewCzar (108), St Louis, Missouri, USA Aug 21, 2008 Draught pours dark brown with a tall well lacing tan head. Nose is hoppy and slightly citrus. Taste is of slightly sweet roasted malts, some kind of sweet spice, with a mellow hop finish. No as Hoppy as most IPA, but very good palate. gearbike (413), West Bloomfield, Michigan, USA Aug 21, 2008 On tap. Big hops are a bit of a suprise since you can not really smell them. Think syrup sweetness. some light citrus. Plesant. Nate (2533), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 20, 2008 On tap at The Knickerbocker. Great fresh grassy hops aroma, pine and grapefruit, apricot and peach. Very fragrant. Nice malt sweetness. Dark amber brown clear with foamy off-white lacing head. Medium body with medium carbonation. Starts with nice malty character before getting nailed with hops. Fresh grassy hops and fresh apricot. Tons of juicy hop flavor. Medium-high bitter finish and smooth bitter after. Nice balance and great flavor. Nice IPA. wetherel (1565), Encinitas, California, USA Aug 20, 2008 22oz bomber from kmweaver. Thanks Ken! Amber color. Nice malty melanoidin backbone. Reminds me of many San Diego style IPAs, such as Double Bastard, Sleighor, Dreadnaught. Though I think it is reasonably fresh, you can tell it is a bit off it’s peak. Very well balanced...i.e. balanced toward very hoppy. Nice hoppy aroma. Nice grapefruit hop bitterness. Very drinkable. Very nice. craftbeerdesign (731), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA Aug 19, 2008 shared bomber. pours a deep murky golden with an average white head. I wish there were more hops in the aroma... it is kinda quiet for a IIPA. Solid hop presence on the tongue, but falls short on the finish. Doesn’t really stick with you like a IIPA should. Soft on the sides and lively on the front of the palate. Average IIPA, very drinkable but falls short from something I’d seek out again.
