GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Jul 10, 2008 22oz bottle. Smelled of lemon cupcake and vanilla with a whiff of caramel. Poured a clear medium orange color with a lasting white head. Medium bodied and slightly sweet without a whole lot of hop bitterness. Tasted of caramel and citrusy hops. Not much depth in this one. bhensonb (4187), Woodland, California, USA Jul 6, 2008 Bomber from the Beer Geek. Coppery amber color with a decent beige head. Resin aroma backed by a little roasted malt. Medium body with fizzy/creamy carbonation. Flavor is smooth resin hop over very light malt. Arguably, and I never thought I’d say this, it might use more malt. On the other hand there is a fair amount of hop here, and it is arguably balanced. Nice, light, pine finish. Worth a try. It does improve with continued consumption, and it was pretty good to start. redlem (1155), Illinois, USA Jul 4, 2008 Stained oak color with zero head. Mainly a pine resin aroma. Taste is fairly fruity from the hops but there is no malt backbone to offset this. The finish is mildly bitter. A below average wxample. islay (470), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Jun 28, 2008 22 oz. bottle. Superb, strong, sharp, soapy, resiny aroma features pine, grass, lemon, salt, and vinegar scents. Super-hoppy smell. Pours a hazy, bright, dark copper or brick color. Huge amount of thick, uneven beige head and thick lacing. Looks very appetizing. Tastes much like it smells, but not quite as strong or good. Bready, lemony flavors couple with cookie maltiness to give a lemon poppy seed muffin effect. Citrus sourness: Grapefruit, orange, and of course lemon. Spicy: Cumin, paprika, and salt. Vegetal, especially celery, flavors. Rich and complex flavors. Long, dry, bitter finish and aftertaste. Medium to heavy body. Oily in the palate with a reasonable amount of liveliness.
Arcadia Hopmouth Double IPA is a great beer. I shouldn’t be surprised, for Arcadia India Pale Ale is one of the best (and most underrated) IPAs in the world, at least to this IPA lover. It’s natural that its double would also be great. This may be the best double IPA that I’ve ever had This is the beer that has caused me to change my favorite style from Imperial Stout to Imperial/Double IPA. Ignore the average score. This beer rocks. jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Jun 14, 2008 22oz bottle-pours a rocky light tan head that laces and copper color. Aroma is resin/citrus hops-some bitter. Taste is resin/citrus/earthy/citrus hops-some bitter, some caramel-medium malt backbone. Taste not quite up to aroma but does have the slightly slick, with the hops, mouth feel that fits an I2PA. OK/mild carbonation. urbnhautebourg (974), Annapolis, Maryland, USA Jun 9, 2008 Very malty for the style, I thought, and the hops are of the woodsy, musty variety, rather than the tropical or citrusy. alobar (1006), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 8, 2008 Nice dark copper color with a frothing white head. Aroma of hops, with some floral hints. Taste is well-balanced between hops anc citrus with a hint of alcohol. Very nice beer! wmubronco1992 (176), Coldwater, Michigan, USA Jun 7, 2008 Bottle - Carmally/copper color. Huge white head with great retention. Excellent lacing. Woodsy aroma. Nice grassy flavor. Dry finish. Love the mouthfeel. Its a big beer and the big bottle was well deserved. Unlike some of the double IPA’s, Arcadia kept the alcohol level under 10% and thus this big brew is not only excellent, but also very drinkable.
