00cobraR (1096), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA Mar 1, 2008 I let this one age too long. lost alot of its hoppiness that i love so much in IIPAs. Pours out a nice amber color with a small head. aroma was grassy and hoppy. finish was simply lacking a hop smack. oh well. ThomasE (5179), Copenhagen, Denmark Feb 28, 2008 Cloudy amber colour with an off white head. Malty, fruity and light floral aroma with hoppy fruity notes. Malty, fruity flavor with a vague buttery note. Hoppy, pine bitter finish. madcow75 (425), Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, USA Feb 27, 2008 Bottle. Pour is cloudy ambe with a medium beige looking head. Aromas of dark fruits, tea, sweet malt. Very malty for IIPA, more dark fruits, some resin. Slight bitter finish with a fruit peel taste. Thick, heavy mouthfeel. Not great, not bad, I wouldn’t seek this out again. BitchesBrew (710), Berkeley, California, USA Feb 21, 2008 [WBA styles tasting] Catty, pine aroma. Not really great of a hop aroma. Soapy. Flavors are harsh and bitter, with some cheesy, old hop flavor. Slightly sour. Mouthcoating diacetyl. joekfsu (138), Boardman, Ohio, USA Feb 21, 2008 22 oz bottle. Pours orange/copper with a massive 3 cm head that is foamy and off-white. Aroma of hops and dark fruits. Initial flavor is balanced between hops and malts, citrus and bread are what I get from this one. Ends more hoppy with a hint of alcohol. Lots of lacing, light carbonation, medium body, and alcohol noted. Very drinkable and moderately intense for a double IPA. Davinci (295), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 18, 2008 From bottle. Pours a caramel color, very hazy with some nice lacing left from a tannish head. Smells of caramel, raisins, prunes, with a note of peach woven through. Nice balance of hops and malt. Alcohol is subdued. Flavors begin to open up as I drink. A slight metallic flavor at the tip of the tongue give way to... blueberries. A strange note from an DIPA in my experience. A little sweet on the finish. A good beer, but not at all what I was expecting. Maybe an old bottle... I’ll have to check. JMerritt (1313), Macomb, Illinois, USA Feb 13, 2008 Orangey-red color, slightly lazy with a massive, frothy white head that leaves behind thick curtains of lacing. Aroma is a strong punch of piney hops followed by caramel and spicy hop notes and a touch of alcohol. Aroma overall is much more earthy and musty as opposed to the usual fresh, zingy citric aroma found in a lot of double IPAs. Vanilla cookie-sweet malts evident in the flavor along with resinous hops and toffee. Cleansing, herbal finish. Moderately carbonated, suits this offering well. Nephilium (541), Ohio, USA Feb 5, 2008 Nice grapefruit and pine hop aroma. Pours a reddish-amber with a nice foamy off-white head. Flavor isn’t as hop heavy as I was expecting, just a nice hint of citrus and bitterness, and an underlaying caramel hint from the malts. Nice thick mouthfeel, and a decent bitter finish.
