Papsoe (14642), Frederiksberg, Denmark Dec 2, 2007 (Bottle 65 cl) Courtesy of MaltOMeal. Hazy, amber golden with a creamy, beige head. Lightly citrusy, hoppy nose. Medium body with a distinct malt sweetness and some dry, lightly citrusy aroma hops in the finish. This lacks some balls to be a truly great Double IPA. 301107 faroeviking (6024), Republica Vikingo de las, Faroe Islands Dec 2, 2007 Bottle. Pours a nice deep amber colour. Sweet, hoppy, woody herby and fruity aroma. Good mouthfeel. The flavour is sweet and woody with softly roasted malt, dark fruits, caramel and hops. The finish is sweet with a pleasant soft roasty maltiness, bit herby. fiulijn (7150), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Nov 26, 2007 Updated: Jul 12, 20092009-06-14, 7-5-7-4-14=37 Cloudy amber color, big creamy head. The aroma is fresh, hoppy, not impressive. Medium bodied, less than expected; some toffee flavor and correct bitterness, but not sweet enough fruity nor resiny. This bottle is almost one year old and strangely didn’t keep up gracefully.
2007-11-30, Papsø’s Blind Tasting, 5-4-6-3-11=29 cloudy amber color; creamy head. Reasonably good malt and fruity aroma, partially covered by some infection; also some sweat. Good body, good malty flavor, giving some fruitness, quite sweet, but spoiled as well by the infection. Should be tried again.
2007-11-12, bottle, 9-5-7-4-15=40 Beautiful hazy red amber color; creamy head. Strong hoppy aroma, very fruity (oranges), and with pine needles and pine resins. Medium body structure, less sweet than expected, with leading caramel flavor and a very strong bitterness (bitter orange fruitness and some resins). Good. mribm (419), Hurley, New York, USA Nov 22, 2007 Aroma: Very aromatic, smelling of pine scented hops.
Appearance: Poured a cloudy orange color with a big frothy, long lasting head which left ample lacing throughout the entire glass.
Flavor: Sweet, malty, hoppy and delicious describe this Double IPA.
Palate: Nice mouthfeel for a big beer like this. Hides the alcohol well and has lots of hops in the finish.
Overall: I love this ale and will have to give it many more tries. It’s going to be a Hoppy Christmas in Hurley. New York!
