Appearance:Good clear amber-copper color, huge white head..Flavor:good grapefruit hops flavor, light caramel good... tronraner (1905), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Aug 26, 2007 Bottle shared by SpringsLicker with myself, Suttree, and decaturstevo. Pours cloudy rust color with ivory head. The aroma is toast and grapefruit with a few piney notes and a touch of grass. Flavor is peanut shells, some charred caramel, and a lot of hop bitterness. Dry aftertaste. Ok. Suttree (2701), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Aug 26, 2007 Some say that a beer is hop juice like thats some sort of insult. When I say this is hop juice, I mean that in a complimentary way Big hop aroma, big hop flavor, very resiny and piney. Thanks to Springslicker for sharing georgekappus (296), Brookfield, Connecticut, USA Aug 24, 2007 Updated: Sep 21, 2007Bottle. Pours a nice amber with a thick long lasting white head. The aroma is citrus, hoppy and caramel. The taste is caramel and malty with just a touch of hops. It was strong and sticky on the palate. tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Aug 20, 2007 Beautiful floral hop nose with underlying citrus and resiny pine. Definitely hop focussed but underlying toasty malt sweetness is apparent. Clear amber coloured body is topped by a decent off white head that leaves some sudsy lace. Very strong bitterness overshadows the flavour and malt profile does not do enough to support leaving it feeling a bit harsh. Very dry and somewhat astringent light medium body with prickly carbonation. Bottle sampled with Altair, beerbuzzmontreal, Cathschlag, Glouglouburp, Goldorak, MartinT, muzzlehatch and Yowie. masonjer (557), Holt, Michigan, USA Aug 20, 2007 Poured a copper/red color. Taste is typical pine notes, hints grapefruit, that ends with a hop bite. There are malty notes throughout, just enought to balance everything. This beer is pretty good, but fairly uninspiring when compared to the rest of the DIPA market. Good beer, but definitely not the best. JCB (1713), Durham, North Carolina, USA Aug 19, 2007 22oz bottle from Once Upon a Vine, Richmond. Either this is a pretty strange DIPA or a sorta old vintage; maybe a little from column A and a little from column B. At any rate, it pours with the kind of attractive features (deep amber, big foamsicle) one expects from the style, and smells nice and piney. It tastes pretty fine too, with a mellow grapefruit quality in there to give it a kind of pert drinkability. But I’ll be damned if, as it warms, I don’t get some bretty funk in there as well. And I’m not sure it works. Aside from this kind of modest imbalance/oddity, it’s enjoyable. porterhouse (1148), Alna, Maine, USA Aug 19, 2007 (22 oz. bottle via trade with <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?UserID=39793 target=blank>shigadeyo, thanks Craig!) Piney and hot...Pours cloudy amber with three fingers of biege head. Head is quite slow to recede, finally forming into about 1/2’ of a lumpy cap. Aroma of pine and grapefruit with some sugar rock candy underneath. Mouthfeel faitly soft and smooth, a little sticky. Heavy sheets of lacing. Flavor is quite hot from fore through finish. Lots of pine, some grapefruit, very little malt able to fight through. Medium-heavy bitter bite in finish. A little harsh.
