igneous1 (1374), Davenport, Iowa, USA Jul 7, 2007 standard IPA/IIPA color, orange/copper is what it seems like to me. head is tan, and with stiff peaks like beaten egg whites. aroma is quite caramelly, with plenty of citrus. flavor is slight alcohol, lots of grapefruit, earthiness with moderate bitterness. not bad, a little cookie cutter. Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Jul 6, 2007 22oz bomber poured out a brilliant clear copper with one inch frothy off white had. Decent lacing was left behind clinging to the glass. The aroma is tangy citrus hops with a pine hop sense just behind. There’s also a sweet malt aroma trying to break through the hoppy veil. The taste is big pine and grapefruit hop bitterness. A malty sweetness seems to be running mildly amuck beneath the bed of hop flavors. As the finish draws closer the pine and grapefruit hop bitterness grows. This is a tasty big hop brew that shows no sign of its ABV. It seems a tad thin for the style. Very tasty though. YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA Jul 6, 2007 Fairly clear deep amber body with a small off-white head. Moderately sweet aroma with notes of citrus, a touch of pine, straw, and a hint of something unpleasant but unknown. The flavor is better than the aroma. A refreshing citrus edge, a modicum of sweetness. Medium bodied with a slight syrupy texture. Somewhat disappointing, considering it’s a double IPA with the name Hopmouth. mistersinalin (367), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Jun 23, 2007 Updated: Jul 8, 2007Tall, dark, and handsome is this one. Smooooooth. I would guess this is half as strong as it is. It has a brilliant hop balance. So drinkable for something at 8%. You wake up in the morning and burp hops! ChainGangGuy (2523), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jun 19, 2007 Appearance: Pours a semi-hazy amber body with a full, off-white head.
Smell: Sweet-smelling toffee and caramel backed by faint scents of tropical fruits.
Taste: A basic caramel sweetness races through some checkpoints of soapy, tart grapefruit, and pine on its way to a hot, bitter finish. Eh.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Mild carbonation.
Drinkability: Fairly uninteresting, it seems to be a half-hearted attempt at the style. MoDog (909), Griffith, Indiana, USA Jun 17, 2007 On tap at Arcadia and poured into a pint glass. This IIPA poured a hazy amber/orange color with a thin beige head that quickly faded away. The aroma of this beer was full of caramel and grapefruit notes. A good amount of hoppiness in the smell. The flavor was mostly citrus hops with a touch of caramel. The mouthfeel was a bit thin for a double. I was hoping for a little more of a resiny look on the sides of the glass. With that said, this is still a solid effort from Arcadia. beerguy101 (3861), Newark, California, USA Jun 16, 2007 This Imperial IPA pours a medium orange color from a 22oz bottle. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is orange, malt and caramel. Medium bodied Imperial IPA. Malts are caramel, biscuit and orange, Hops are citrus, grapefruit and piney. Touch of alcohol bite. About a medium bitterness IPA. There is a nice residual malt sweetness in this one. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. eaglefan538 (2355), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jun 15, 2007 On tap at the Blind Tiger in NYC. Poured an amber type color, weak initial head and lacing, not off to a great start. The aroma was caramel, some pine resin. The flavor was a little watered down, some caramel, pine hops, light breadiness, needed more citrus. For a style that has a lot of potential, this was pretty weak. Watery mouthfeel, needed more umph all the way around: malts and hops. Not a turnoff, just short of the style’s potential.
