unclemattie (2370), Georgia, USA Jun 14, 2007 22oz bottle. hops, malt stickyness. honey, hops, smooth body. malt flavors. hints of sherry. clean finish. gmcase (113), Indiana, USA Jun 10, 2007 Updated: Jun 17, 2007Bottle. Nice cloudy amber color with a thiick head. Surprising light hop flavor for a double IPA but still good. A damn good beer as beer goes, but compared to other DIPA’s a bit soft. I expected to get beat down in an alley by a gang of hops. Still I would drink it everyday. Happily. kwoeltje (1313), Manchester, Missouri, USA Jun 8, 2007 (bottle) lovely dark amber with moderate off-white head. Pine aroma jumps out. But the hops aren’t as obvious in the flavor, and it has a slightly soapy finish. IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA Jun 6, 2007 Poured a cloudy amber with a large fizzy/fluffy white head. Aroma is light for a double IPA, some grapefruit, light pineapple, some cinnamon spiciness, a bit of orange. Flavor is bitter with some earthy grassiness, a slight touch of orange, finishing with some sticky dry toffee. Body is somewhat soft. Overall bitter but subdued, with slightly underwhelming hop complexity. Surprising to find this was reforumlated from Batch #999, as I found that distinctly hoppier. smhncabot (310), Cabot, Arkansas, USA May 28, 2007 pours amber to copper with medium head. aroma is only moderate with peach/pineapple, resin, and slight citrus hops backed by biscuit and deep crystal malt. taste is sweet grapefruit and peach hop up front followed up by a roasty biscuit and dark crystal malt (but isnt very sweet). finish is piney bitter with some biscuit and bits of tropical fruit. not to bad of an ipa pretty drinkable. realale420 (399), west covina, California, USA May 28, 2007 Bottle poured amber in color with a small head. Aroma was full of resinous hops, caramel malts and a touch of alcohol. The flavor had a good strong bitterness followed by a sweet malty finish. mlist55 (210), media, Pennsylvania, USA May 23, 2007 Bitter hops blended with sweet malts. Some sweet citrus up front. Medium body/mouthfeel. Dry bitter finish. Alcohol on the nose, pretty well hidden in the mouth. Drinkable. Mildly acidic. sneagrams3 (1704), St. Louis, Missouri, USA May 23, 2007 22oz bomber. Filtered with a ruby amber hue. Finger width of bone white head. Big sugary citrus sweet nose. Rather full bodied with big flavors. Great layered complexity mixed with a gererous blsst of alcohol. Good maltiness, but it takes total backseat to the hops. Cookie and cinnamon undertones, then a bitter citrus peppery blast. Notes of grapefruit and oranges. The second glass has slightly more of a haze. Must have activated whatever was left at the bottom of the bottle. Huge head. Touch more citrus in the nose, both resulting in temperature and heady sediment. More of a musty yeastiness as well. Good sugars. The bitterness lingers but finally subsides. It trails off into a grainy bubblegummy flavor. Not over the top, but good drinking and well crafted.
